I am crazy-hormonal thanks to AF, so I may not be seeing things clearly at the moment.
Last night H and I went grocery shopping after the gym. We picked up approximately 10 things and while H is running the card through, I move to the end of the belt to start loading the bag, since there was no bagger there.
I've got approximately 1/2 the stuff in the bag and the checker girl comes over and is all in my personal space moving stuff around and generally getting in my way and then she's RIGHT NEXT TO ME (as in, shoulders touching) trying to pick stuff up and put it in the bag. Which is directly in front of my sweaty-gym-clothes covered boobs. So she's all reaching over my chest, etc. And THEN she asks "do you need help?"
I said "no, I'm good, thanks" and she says "Are you sure?" I think I was mostly polite, but I said no thanks again and she finally went away to check out the next person. But FFS, I wanted to slap the poor teenage thing. DUDE. The time to ask me if I need help is BEFORE you get in my personal space. And if I say no, I mean it. Argh.
Would this scenario annoy you, too? Someone tell me that this is clearly hormones and exhaustion and I should just STFU and deal. Or sit in a circle with the checker singing kumbaya.
I generally like to bag my own groceries. It comes from living on the 5th floor in college with no elevator. I really don't care if you put it all in the same bag, I want as few bags as possible.

I would be annoyed, but my love of my personal space is deep and I do not like people to invade it. I have moments where H and DS cannot get close to me because I just.need.to.be.left.alone.
So maybe irrational because I'm a little crazy, but I vote not.
That would annoy me. If there is no bagger, I always go to bag my own groceries. Actually, I prefer it because 99% of people don't know how to bag. I always end up with a few things in each bag and my cold/frozen items never seem to make it into the same bag. When someone does show up and I tell them I'm fine bagging my own, they never seem to know what to do.

I told the teenage girl today, as she is bagging all the gatorade into my cold bags, to make sure that my ice cream got into one of the cold bags. It's 100 degrees outside girlfriend! My ice cream isn't going far but if it melts, I will have 5 unhappy kids and no ice cream sandwiches!
I don't know if I would be pissed, but how awkward! I probably would have told her that I wanted to bag my own. If she just stood there watching you bag them she probably would have gotten in trouble since it's her job to get you through the line.
That said, I get pissed about stuff like that all the time because I'm a bit of a hot head.
I wouldn't be pissed, maybe annoyed if she was really that in your space. But she could have been annoyed you jumped in to do her job making her look bad. I have seen a store manager get on to an employee more than once because I was bagging my own groceries since they should have been there before I had the chance to start.
I like my personal space and all but as someone who has the misfortune of working in a grocery store, she was just trying to do her job. Yes, she should have asked you before she got in your personal space but I would give her kudos for actually trying to help and not just stand there and watch you do it (as I have seen many people do).
