I decided to tackle the last of our woodwork yesterday. Peel Away did pretty darn well on the first pass; either this one's easier or I'm getting better at it.
I ran out before I could get all the way around. And I'm not buying another $60 tub for that little bit on the left, so I guess I'm stuck with citrus stripper for that.
On a related note, when I got up on a ladder to take down the shades, I discovered that on all three, when the windows are fully closed and locked, there is a gap almost large enough for me to put my finger through between the top of the top sash and the top of the window opening! It's really breezy up there! I feel like a doofus noticing this only after 5 years. I blame it on being super short with high ceilings. You can see how often I (don't) clean up there LOL. Luckily it's summer and we were already planning on replacing them before winter. Otherwise I'd have some serious weatherizing to figure out.
I'm almost secretly happy that we get to just buy new old-fashioned sashes on this set; stripping window sashes has to be involved in one of the circles of hell. Also bonus that whoever did the replacements left the weight pockets and weights, so otherwise the units are intact and ready for their rightful sashes. My projects are never this easy; I know something's got to give!
I know! We do have a couple of freezing nights each year, so it probably cost us something in heat. I'll be interested to see what the heating bill does next year once this is fixed and has a storm (yet another project). Probably not much since our gas maxes out at less than $100. I wonder what happened? Why would someone go to the expense of installing wood Marvin replacement sashes but then install them too small?
I'm gonna tell DH you guys said he has to buy me something (preferably jewelry) now Close enough to an award, right? Wonder if that will work?
