I got rear ended on my way home from work tonight. We're planning to buy a new car within the next few weeks anyways because the car seats don't fit in my car. But I decided to go to L&D just in case. So now I'm sitting here for hours.... Babies both have good heartbeats and my cervix was 3.6. I'm not feeling it at all but the monitor shows I'm contracting. They're pumping me full of IV fluids. Yay for Friday night fun?
yay for insurance money to put towards the new car? Really glad it sounds like nothing serious and that you and the babies are looking good. What does the contracting mean? I mean, are they concerned about it at all or will it stop soon?

They gave me the IV fluids to try to stop them. The OB referred to them as irritable uterus and sounded like they're not a big deal though. At this point I'm not really worried and just want to go home! They're waiting on FFN results I guess...

Hope you are cleared to go home really soon then. Scary though!
and now theyre keeping me overnight. for no apparent reason. this sucks so b ad. and its going to cost m4 $500. thank god the babies are fine but this is ridiculous.
I was rear ended from a stop (as in car that hit me was full stop then started before I did when the light turned green). Blood work was normal. FFN was normal. Cervix was fine on vaginal u/s and two separate manual checks. Urine test was normal. Monitoring of babies for 3 hours was normal. This beeping machine is making me homicidal. And they won't let me eat. And my back is killing me because this position is so uncomfortable. And I have my contacts in, and I grind my teeth when I sleep without a mouth guard which I am without. And I want a shower like crazy cakes.
Did I mention that hospital admission is going to cost me $500 whereas L&D would likely have been free?
The other driver's insurance should be billed for your hospital stay. That's how it worked for me. Did they have you fill out paperwork for the auto insurance company?
I'm sorry you are there, but hopefully everything is fine and they are just being cautious.

I am curious why they are making you stay so long. I went yesterday for decreased movement and was out in about 3 hours. I hope you got some rest by now!
I was actually rear ended yesterday as well! Both my passenger and I went to the hospital (via car, not ambulance) to get checked out. I fully expect, and their insurance should certainly pay for everything! I don't think you'll be out anything!
I agree with the other posters who say that their insurance should pay for any hospital bills. I was rear ended at about 33 weeks, and her insurance covered the cost of my observation. And worst case scenario, if theirs doesn't cover it, yours probably will.

I think they were just being really really cautious due to considering twins high-risk. And in fairness to them, I was showing contractions on the monitor, which I guess at 28 weeks they really don't like to see. Sigh.
Also I'm really glad to hear that everything turned out okay for you!!

Oh no! Sorry to hear you were in an accident too, but it sounds like things turned out okay for you.
Thanks for your nice words everyone. I am home now (after some begging) and in the light of day and the comfort of my own pajamas and my bed am much more rational. Maybe I can blame my overwhelming irrational anger last night on pregnancy hormones? I'm not sure. I was really frustrated about how they handled the whole thing, and being admitted really blind sided me. This morning they started in on "24 hours of monitoring is standard" and I kind of thought I was going to punch the poor resident. Thankfully they agreed to back off on that idea.
They did 2 manual cervix checks, 1 transvaginal ultrasound to check cervix, 1 abdominal ultrasound to check general health and amniotic fluid, an FFN, a urine analysis, and two sets of blood work. Plus 12 continuous hours of monitoring contractions and both babies heartbeats and IV fluids, plus took my blood pressure about 10 times. I was told that based on my FFN results I have a less than 1% chance of going into preterm labor within the next 2 weeks. So, I am trying to focus on the happy news that babies continue to be well cared for.
Thanks again. I did not get any sleep at all, so I'm off to try to get a nap in my own bed.
I think you were totally within your rights to be frustrated last night - the little things like contacts and mouth guards are important! I have both and know how it goes.
Glad you are home now. Was you SO able to be with you this time?
No. She had to leave shortly after I was admitted. They did let my roommate's husband stay in a hard plastic chair, but I think the concern for her giving birth that night was much higher than mine. (I don't think we were discriminated against for being a same sex couple, just that I was unlikely to give birth.)
If you're remembering my back story of wanting to change hospitals, this is still the original hospital. I got side tracked on changing doctors because there was a concerning growth scan and I felt like it was best for my babies that the issue be followed up with the same people who discovered it. But thankfully the growth scan issue resolved itself. And last night solidified for me that we're going to try to make an appointment to switch to a different practice to hopefully deliver at the suburban hospital. Hopefully my babies are cooperative and wait long enough to come for me to make that happen!

I hope you're able to find a provider and a hospital that you're confident in and happy with!
