I got my flu shot months ago and so did H. I've tried to be SO careful about avoiding sick ppl. After feeling worse this am, we went to urgent care where they did a flu test that came back positive. I'm on tamiflu, Tylenol, and robitussin. And can take Mucinex and cough drops, as needed. Still feeling really rough, but have only had one dose of the tamiflu so far. We did speak with the on-call ob who double ok'd all this as well as the pharmacist (well H did - I was curled up on the couch).
My next ob appt is my 20 week scan that my parents are coming in to town for. Now I'm all nervous we're going to get bad news at that appt. Googling "flu while pregnant" is not a good idea.
Hope everyone else who is sick starts feeling better soon!
Aw, I'm sorry you're sick. I'm sure the baby will be fine. Stop consulting Dr Google! Good never comes from that. Drink plenty of fluids so you don't get dehydrated. That'll make you feel worse.
My sister had the flu while pregnant. It was probably around the same time in pregnancy as you are. She had to be admitted into the hospital because things got so bad, and I think it was largely due to the fact that her OB wouldn't let her take anything but Tylenol (she was in the military and couldn't shop around for a better OB).
Anyway, she later delivered my perfect little niece and everything is wonderful. Don't worry too much. Tons of women get the flu while pregnant, and I think it's great that your getting to take the medication that you need so that things don't get too out of hand.
I'm sorry. Try not to worry and step away from Google! It sounds like you caught it relatively early so hopefully you'll recover quickly. Sending you lots of feel better vibes.
Avoid Dr. Google!! People who get the flu when pregnant and don't have complications don't go spread their story on the internet, so you're going to see a disproportional amount of scary stories. Just like the flu is mild for most healthy people, the flu is not going to be a huge deal for most pregnant women either. Keep taking care of yourself and likely everything will be just fine!!
you should be fine because you caught it early, got the shot (which should reduce the severity of your symptoms and the length of time you have them) and have the right meds. just keep on top of your fluids (super important!) and watch your fever! feel better soon!
Thanks for all the kind words and positive stories, guys.
I'd encourage any of you who feel ill to get to the dr promptly! I almost wanted to wait, which would have knocked me out of being able to use tamiflu (have to take within 48 hours of first symptoms).
