Oh man, Corky is flipping his shit right now with the fireworks. They have never bothered him before! I don't know what to do other than attempt to distract/redirect him.
Maybe I should take him for a walk or something? Then maybe I could see them, too....
My oldest is panting like he was just outside running around in the heat for an hour. I'm so tempted to call the non emergency line bc I'm ready for bed and the fireworks they're setting off are totally illegal in PA.

My bigger dog is terrified of fireworks. We're moving tomorrow, so we had to go out earlier. The poor guy -- we saw fireworks the whole drive home. I had to pick up all 50 pounds of him and carry him in the house because he was to scared to get out of the car.
A walk is probably not a good plan. Just love on him and let him find a spot in the house where he feels safe!
omg no to the walk. It will make it worse. Take him to an interior space if you have one. Dexter used to go to the basement or the master bedroom closet during fireworks and storms. He's no longer afraid of them but that's because he can't hear them anymore.
Knock on wood no fireworks here yet. But all our neighbors are at the lake and it is not dark yet... Both pugs are snuggly and sleepy right now, we'll see if that lasts
Music has been blasting since 7...I would leave him. I know some dogs are just sensitive to the noise and others as they get older it becomes a problem.
Our dog freaks out at fireworks and thunderstorms. Like others said, we have several tvs turned on around the house to try to drown out the noise. But we also have him on anxiety meds. You might want to look into getting a Thundershirt for him to wear during storms/fireworks. They can really help dogs with anxiety.
Yeah we are like 0.3 miles from the fireworks site and now it is shaking my house. I got him to calm down, though, with some loud TV. Thanks for the tips guys!
Pel isn't afraid of thunder or other loud noises, so I took him to the town fireworks show. He freaked out at the lights in the sky and we had to leave. Brought him to the basement and gave him an empty pb jar to lick. He's better and stopped panting at least. He's almost asleep now.
Quincy isn't afraid of them yet, and hopefully he won't learn to be. He's actually in the back yard right now with DH. Dexter still won't go outside during fireworks - he can smell them in the air.
We have discovered the only thing that is distracts our dog is a frozen peanut butter kong. I know it's not healthy but he gets so panicked I was afraid he'd hurt himself.
It seems that turning a box fan on high and closing the doors to the room help my dog a little bit. Otherwise I've not found anything. Usually TV isn't enough even at full blast (well, as full blast as I can tolerate). I'm glad you were able to calm him down - hopefully this won't become a continual issue! My dog even gets nervous at fireworks on TV. He hates anything that even resembles the noise of fireworks or thunder, and I haven't found anything yet that seems like a foolproof remedy.
