I know the chance of ever needing it is slim to none but we banked with our first kid and will bank with this one. I waste more money per yr on stupid things than the $200 it costs for me to bank.
I am going to talk to my doctor about delayed clamping at my next appt. We aren't going to bank it because it's so expensive. We got a quote and it was 4K. No thanks.

I banked in 2011 for $1700 with CBR plus $200 per yr. I know it is even cheaper now and we are banking with them again. So shop around. CBR isnt even the cheapest.
I'm on the "Be the Match" bone marrow registry, and I found out through them that I have something rare in my blood or bone marrow that makes me an unlikely candidate to donate. I figure if it's unlikely that I'll find a match to give marrow to, then it's also unlikely that I would find someone who could donate to me. Maybe my kids will be in the same boat, so I'm banking the cord blood for them just to be safe.
I've heard that it's better to donate for most people (if the options are donate or bank) because usually if you need that blood for a medical issue, you'll need a different version than your own. So it's better to have a larger, diverse collection so more people have more chance to use it.

If this is the only reason you are banking, you may want to ask questions. Your assumption my not be true. Think about regular blood transfusions -- a person who is AB+ can only give to others who are AB+, but they can ACCEPT blood from *anyone*. I don't kniw the specific factors for cord blood, but it may be worth figuring out before you spend all of that money.

Nothing. I would like donate it but I doubt I will meet the criteria since I can't donate regular blood due to having lived in Europe during the Mad Cow Crisis of the 90's. I'll ask though
Thanks for the info runblondie26. I'm delivering @ Piedmont so I'll check it out.

Yeah, I should probably look into that and see if I can get some more answers. Still, I'm leaning banking the cord blood. I feel like there has been so much progress in this area that I might really regret not doing it. I'm a sucker, lol.
