My kiddo has been attached to a silly little stuffed blue dog since he was a baby. We're on Puppers version 2.0 now, and it's looking rough. Multiple holes in seams, threadbare, well loved. I can see through it in some spots. I'm afraid to wash it at this point because it's going to just fall apart one of these days.
He's 5, almost 6. He said he wished for a new Puppers that he didn't have to be so careful with.
I'll fork over the money and replace the lovey if it means that much, but at what age do those things stop being so important? I kind of feel like he's maybe outgrowing it. There are nights where he forgets to bring him to bed and doesn;t notice, but there are days where the silly little dog doesn't leave his side.

I feel like he will give it up when he is ready. Does he take it out with him or is it just for at home? DS has a lovely, he is 4 and will probably have it for a lot longer. He only has it at home and some days he wants it more and some just when he sleeps. I remember having mine til I was around 10.
I'm 25 and still sleep with my blankie. I rarely wash it for fear it will fall apart. It used to have blue and pink polka dots on it and a couple of Disney characters (I think Pluto, Mickey, and Minnie). You can't see any of that anymore; it's mostly grey.
I was about 10 when I stopped really caring whether or not my bear I'd had since I was little was in bed with me or not. Although I would sometimes feel guilty in the morning, lol.

My dad went on a work trip when I was 5, and brought me back a teddy bear. I slept with it every night for 20 years. My kids now play with the bear. If I were you, I'd replace the lovey.
DS is 5.5 and I don't see it happening soon. Super Lion isn't washed much so I think he will hold out. We have Backup Lion but he was quickly determined to be an inferior imposter not worthy of prime pillow space. They are exactly the same beanie baby one just has a horribly matted mane and a homemade super hero costume

Okay. Puppers 3.0 it is. This poor dog isn't going to make it to age 7, let alone 25.
I feel a little morbid. What do you do with used and abused lovies? I have the first Puppers that I accidently decapitated in a box in the closet. I can't just throw them away. It feels wrong. This is how hoarding starts, isn't it?

Can we have the backstory on this, please???lol. It sounds like a good one.

My teddy bear (which is in remarkably good shape!) is still on my bed and it's not going anywhere. When I was pregnant with DS, I asked my H if he thought it was weird that I still slept with that damn bear at almost 30 and he said, "I just figured you would give it to our kid when he was born." Yeah, no. Get your own bear, baby. FTR, Bear did go with me to college. I consider him one of my most important possessions.
I still have and occaissionly sleep with a bear, Pookie, that my grandma got me when I was five. He's been through a lot. A few surgeries, a stay in the melt unit, and he's still kicking and hangs out with o and his bears.
I'm prepared to fashion o's lovey blankets into a handkerchief so he can wear them down the aisle .
Both of my kids still have their blankies. Ages 13 and 10. Obviously they don't take them anywhere anymore and sleep just fine if they don't have them, but they both keep them in their rooms. I sure wouldn't throw them away. I know my ten year old uses his when he is feeling sad or upset about something, the older one probably not at all, but it's there if he wants it!
I sill have mine at almost 39. But she's a naked plastic doll. I think she's the 3rd version. When I was very ypung I apparently would chew on her or something. She would always fall on the floor while I slept. When replaced with a new version,I was told the old one went to doll heaven and the doll fairy brought me the new one. I assume my mom threw he old ones away.
There's someone on here who had hers at her wedding, courtesy of her husband. It is the best story

My DD is 8 and has no signs of giving up her Care Bear lovey. I would buy 2 or 3 and rotate through them so one doesn't get too worn. That should hopefully last a little while.
It depends on the kid. Anna dropped hers around 3.5. Sophia had a yellow bear then got attached to a tiger and carried both around and recently dropped the bear. She still has the tiger (and her paci). She is 3.5.

Yep, backup Ikea dog is fine for DC, but ruled unworthy to sleep in his bed at home. They are the exact same dog. Same with backup blanket. Okay for DC. Not suitable for being covered with at home.
I just got my loveys down from the attic last week. Dh cant get comfortable due to his tumors so he's been sleeping in the guest room. I feel less alone having my bear and blanket with me.
My blankie lives in my closet. It's easily half the size it was when I was a kid. My bear George lives on a shelf in my bedroom with H's monkey Charlie. When we were LD we traded stuffed animals. (Yes we're that dorky.) I slept with George every night until I started sleeping next to H on a regular basis... and I mean sleeping, not sex. So I was 22 yrs old before my bear got retired to a shelf.
My blankie went with me to college and still gets pulled out sometimes. It's been patched to hell and back and is no where near original, but it's my blankie.
It might be a good idea to buy 2 more of puppers instead of 1. Then you won't have to scramble when it gets worn or if the poor kid loses it.
this. If I had known when I bought Abby's favorite blankie that: 1)she would be so incredibly attached to it, and 2)it is now completely impossible to find another one like it, I would have bought out every one of them they had in stock at Walmart. She's 3.5 and she's had it since she was about six months old, so it's looking pretty rough. I've been scouring the internets for over a year trying to find this damn blanket again and to no avail. A damned walmart blanket that's impossible to find... who would have thought???
