My 8yo DD still sleeps with her teddy bear every night. We did buy a replacement at one point - and it wasn't easy to find. I had to buy it from ebay from a seller from England. If you can find a replacement, I would buy it now.
We are on #3 over here and it's about on it's last leg. DD is almost 4, we keep buying her Lambie off of ebay for insane amounts. I wish a website was for free exchanges of these things. If anyone wants to post a picture of the lovies in here and if I have it I'll ship it to you. Out of the 100s of stuffed animals she only loves the one. I figure she will take hers with her to college at this point!!
Okay. Puppers 3.0 it is. This poor dog isn't going to make it to age 7, let alone 25.
I feel a little morbid. What do you do with used and abused lovies? I have the first Puppers that I accidently decapitated in a box in the closet. I can't just throw them away. It feels wrong. This is how hoarding starts, isn't it?
Can we have the backstory on this, please???lol. It sounds like a good one.
He used to suck on the snout of the first stuffed dog, so it had to be washed pretty frequently. I washed it one afternoon with his bedding, and I guess it was too much. Puppers came out of the wash in two pieces.
I freaked out and then did my best to sew him back together. Then I ordered a new one on eBay.
New dog arrived and I devised a plan to swap them out. I "washed" the old dog, and then pulled the brand new dog out of the dryer. "Look at how shiny and clean he is now! That was such a good bath!" My kid picked him up and went to bite on his snout. It didn't feel right I guess, because he pulled it away, looked at it, glared at me, and threw the dog on the ground and walked away. He wasn't impressed.

DS1 was very attached to his lovey (meaning- I will not go to sleep without it) up until around age 6. He is almost 9 now. "Bunny" is still in his room along with a random pile of stuffed animals, but he does not need to sleep with it.
DS2 sleeps with a radio. That is his lovey. If the batteries die at 2:00 am, you are up to replace them!
Blanket and bear went to college with me. My first blanket is down to a little shred of fabric so it is in my hope chest, same with my second blanket. My bear is kept on my bed when we make it, but he lays on the decorative pillows on the floor when we get in at night.
I still have my stuffed raccoon (racky) from my first Christmas, which I still sleep with. My H has always been understanding of him. He did come to college with me, and was a point of initial camaraderie with one of the girls who became one of my best friends to this day.
I love all the stories about adults with lovies. I still have my blankie, used to be white with a satin edging. It is now very grey with no satin and a hole in the middle. I also have a cabbage patch doll I Love. She went to college and is THE item that must be grabbed in case of fire.
My kids (3 and 5) still love the shit out of their loveys. I don't see any real reason to get rid of them - they stay in their beds - and they are comfort items.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
I wish I had a picture of my lovey from when I was a kid. It looks like something out of a horror movie, no exaggeration. My BFF and I used to scare the shit out of our friends at sleepovers with it.
I tried to throw it out when I was 8 or so, turns out my mom dug it out of the garbage and saved it for my wedding day. Fun times.
