I have the Grand Traveler. Took it to Chicago as a carry-on for a 4 night trip over Labor Day weekend. It worked really well for me. They have a smaller one, the Weekender, but I haven't bought it. Hard to justify a smaller bag when I love my GT so much.
I have the Weekender and a Travel Overnighter bag (also VB). It's very similar in size to the Grand Traveler. It doesn't look like VB at all, it's black micro fiber, but I think they do have it in some prints. I think any of the three would be a good carry on.
I also have the Weekender. I can easily fit enough for 2-4 night in when I pack minimally. When full, it gets pretty heavy, and can be a little difficult to carry.
Sort of off-topic, but I have the hanging cosmetic case and I love it. I got it as a gift a few years ago and use it all the time. It's much lighter and softer than most other ones I've seen (but the pouches are plastic lined to prevent leaks). Just in case you saw a matching one for your new carry-on...
Please tell me that these bags mentioned above have wheels. I hate seeing women in the airport carrying large overstuffed VB bags and probably doing horrible damage to their backs and shoulders. I'm happy with backpack style large bags as at least the weight it distributed, but I can't stand the normal carry handles. I feel so bad when I see a couple and the guy is carrying two bags, one in each hand, plus a third on his back, while the gal carries the coffee or food. You need free hands when traveling, so either get a backpack or a wheeled bag. Wheels are even better so you don't have to put something down on the dirty bathroom stall floor.
