East coast destinations you love

H and I are looking for a small trip anywhere on the east coast that is within a decent driving distance (we are in nj)

Just a small getaway, no issues re cost.

What are some of your favorite places?

I don't know if this is a doable drive from NJ, but I really love Charleston, SC.

In summer: Portland, ME; Cape Cod, MA; Newport, RI; Lake George, NY

In spring or fall: NYC and DC

I haven't been in years, but Annapolis, MD looks like a nice place for a weekend trip, especially if you like sailing.

I also love Charleston and Savannah, but that's not really a reasonable drive from Jersey.

Ah, yes; West Virginia...
Greenbrier, of course, but also Charles Town (racing, casino), Harper's Ferry, Shepherdstown (artsy), Martinsburg, Berkley Springs (Roman Bath/Spa)...All are Historic and offer lots of variety and outdoor activities. It is just a 4 hour drive from SJ.
I'm heading there in September! Can't wait!

Block Island! You can take the Ferry from New London, CT and spent a few days out there. It's gorgeous!
