We do not have AC and have managed to keep the house at about 74-75 degress during this spell of high temps. We open the windows at night and close them first thing in the morning.
Wow! I don't think it's gotten below 70 degrees at night here in awhile.
We have a 2700 sq ft house and keep it at 73 (or 72 depending how we are feeling) when we are at home or sleeping and about 77 when we are away.
I must say that ever since we added a bunch of blown in insulation into the attic the 2nd floor isn't much warmer than the first floor (so worth it) and the A/C doesn't kick in all that often anymore.
Keeping the A/C at our preferred temps is one of the reasons we go to work everyday;)
We have the AC set to 80 and the electric bill last month was still $125. We won't be going any lower than that! Without the AC on it's over 100 in our apartment even when it's only 80 out. Stupid 3rd floor.

This is exactly how our apartment was. It was lovely in the winter, because I could open the curtains on a sunny day, and it would stay comfortable warm without ever turning on the heat. Summers were miserable though.

Yes, I love winter in this apt! We rarely had to turn the heat above 65

We aren't getting the heat wave the rest of the country is, but ours is at 77 all the time.
DH does a/c work and always says that your home a/c will get your house 20 degrees below outside air. If you are trying to get it lower and it doesn't, it isn't broken it just can't do it. If you do get more than 20 degrees difference consider yourself blessed.
DH runs really hot and would want the house to be freezing year round. I "win" in the summer and we keep it at 71-78, and he "wins" in the winter and we keep it at 67.
i just went upstairs to check. landlord has it set at 77, but he turned it off since he's gone for the weekend. it's 83 on the main floor in his house right now. bleh. meanwhile, i have the door and windows open in our apartment and it's perfect without the ac or fans. god bless the basement.
67. I hate being hot/sleeping in a hot house. (unless I'm by the pool in a swimsuit!) I'm just a wimp. I feel stuffy/headachey/gross when it gets too hot.

Around 72 or 73 during the day. Right now I'm unemployed and home often, and this is one thing I'm not willing to cut costs on. I like being comfortable.
67 at night because we sleep upstairs where it tends to be several degrees warmer.
Plus side of living in a huge multi-unit building? Protection from the elements. Our electric is included in rent if we stay below $50/mo. We've never gone over.
We turn the air off at night because we sleep in the lower level and it is very cool. During the day, we generally keep it between 76-78 if it's above 90 degrees. Otherwise, we turn the a/c off.
