Researching Savannah. We'll be spending a couple of days there on a trip down south.
Anyone have any suggestions for hotels for a mid-week stay for my husband and myself. Parking, comfortable rooms, breakfast, and close proximity to fun stuff. Less than $300/night.
Restaurants? Sights? Touristy stuff? Not concerned about price for either of these.
The Bohemian is right on River Street, has a great roof top bar. The Mansion on Forsyth is nice as well. Lots of places on Bay Street, which is right by River Street. Hyatt, Holiday Inn Express, Aria, Doubletree, etc. There is a Westin on the other side of the river too.
touristy stuff- do a trolley tour, ghost tour (one is in a hearse!), cemetery tour If you like history- Old Fort Jackson and Ft Pulaski, at Tybee there is the beach, lighthouse, museum, marine science center, dolphin tour.
I can give you restaurant recs if you decide to go to Tybee. It's about a 20 minute drive from downtown SAV

We stayed at the Ballastone Inn. It was good, not great. We've stayed at better B&Bs. But the location and the breakfasts were good.
We had dinners at Alligator Soul, Elizabeth's, and Local 11Ten, and we liked them in that order. Alligator Soul and Elizabeth's were great. Very different. Alligator Soul feels like a Brooklyn restaurant, loud, casual, focus on delicious food. Elizabeth's is eclectic and over the top but in a good way. For drinks, the could-be-better-named World of Beer was terrific since it has a huge selection of unique draught beers.
We did a Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil tour which was great (Bonaventure Cemetery, Mercer House, etc). We also wandered the riverfront shops and City Market. We also walked through the Oatland Wildlife Center, which is a bit of a drive outside the main area, but the weather is good so it was a very pleasant afternoon..
Dresser-Palmer House is a nice b&b. The Wisteria room is very private with it's own entrance into a nice little courtyard. It's right next to Forsyth Park and walking distance to everything.
We also loved Alligator Soul for dinner. We did a ghost walking tour with Savannah Walks which was fun. Lunches at Vic's on the River and Soho South Cafe. Mercer-Williams House tour.
Definitely read Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil before you go. It's a great book, and it's cool to identify places in Savannah from the novel.
Another vote for Alligator Soul, and the rooftop bar at the Bohemian. I also think that a hop on/off trolley tour is always a good idea. We had a really nice stay at the Azalea Inn B&B, but it's a bit further back towards Forsyth Park.
Oh! I would also suggest looking into rentals. There's a huge difference between rentals & hotels in Savannah, and they have so many great rental options.
