I applied for a position a couple of weeks ago. I got a call the next day asking me to set up an interview for three days later. I wasn't available on such short notice, but I got back to the person within 24 hours with other days I could do. He said he would check the calendar and get back to me.
I heard nothing for a little while.
I emailed yesterday to inquire about setting up the interview and got a response today that they had already interviewed several people and were in the process of making an offer.
I am sorry. Sounds like they were looking to fill the spot asap. This happens pretty often.
The really weird part is that the person I spoke with said that while he wanted to fill the position ASAP but that the process would likely take several weeks, if not a month.
I so want to reply back and tell the person to fuck off for being an asshole. But I won't. Of course.
That sucks. What would happen if you called in sick at work to go to an interview?
Oh, I have scheduled several "doctor's appointments" for interviews and nobody says anything. But I had legitimate conflicts I couldn't get out of for his original proposed date.

I'm so sorry. May I ask how close your proposed dates were to theirs? I know we try to bring candidates in really close to one another. It seems to help speed up the process and make comparisons easier.

Pretty close. It really should be shocking to nobody in this business that a lawyer can't make it on 72 hours notice. I think the person just totally dropped the ball and forgot to get back to me. Still, it pisses me off.

I went through a recruiter at my last firm, and apparently the hiring atty asked her to get me in that day (as in, the day I first talked to her). !! I begged out (I mean, I at least wanted to be wearing a suit), but ended up interviewing the next day. Some places move fast like that.
