I didn't feel great Monday night. Felt like heartburn, but with a touch of nausea and some weirdness in my chest. I didn't do anything about it. I didn't even tell dh.
Tuesday it was a little better, so I didn't say anything. Played with the kids. Started getting uncomfortable. Finally found the tums. They kinda cleared up the vague heartburn stuff, but it was suddenly clear that I was having chest pains.
I thought maybe I had worked myself up and was having an anxiety attack though I've never had one before. I took a shower to try to relax. Then I bent over to pick up the baby and had a sharper chest pain. No denying something is wrong at this point. I called dh to come home and called 911.
They told me it was not a heart attack, but thought I should go in. Blood test came back showing something. Sent for a chest cat scan.
ER doctor breezes in, you have multiple pulmonary embolisms which are blood clots in your lungs. I'm admitting you and putting you on blood thinners. And then he turned around and walked out.
So... Here I sit. Wondering how I got a blood clot that traveled to my lungs. Glad I'm alive. I have had no shortness of breath and my lungs sound fine according to the lung doctor. But I have to wait until the blood thinners kick in. Which could be from 2-5 days more.
My kids are upset, my 15mo has basically weaned cold turkey and I don't feel happy with that, and everything is shitty. And morphine makes me weepy or something. And I feel like I'm 93.
That sounds so stressful, I'm sorry!! I'm glad they caught it and were able to diagnose you quickly so you could get treatment. I hope the blood thinners kick in quickly and you're feeling better. Your family will get through this.
One cause of pulmonary embolisms can be birth control, birth control can cause blood clots which can move up into your lungs where they become lodged, because of the small veins there. If you smoke this can enhance the side effects of BCP. (Not a doctor just work in the field)
I too had multiple PE's - the ER Dr told me that he wasn't sure how I was alive, and I wasn't having shortness of breath either
It is such a mind fuck to go through something like that, I am so sorry
Did your 15 month old wean cause you are hospitalized? If you still have milk, and he still has interest, you can nurse on lovenox or heparin. Very little is excreted into BM, and that which is, is deactivated in baby's GI tract. (if they give you a choice, I personally would take heparin over lovenox or Coumadin, any second of any day)
Let me know if you ever want to talk to someone who has BTDT - it was definitely freaky to me at first!
ETA: I forgot about the contrast, that isn't nursing friendly - for a day or two depending on what they gave you (I am sure you know that). I would be so upset to wean early, I am sorry. I hope you both bounce back and figure it out
OH gosh. I'm so sorry. I'm glad that you went in and were able to be treated. It's normal for something like this to throw the whole family off kilter, not just you. Be patient with yourself, I'm sure that things will return to normal. Hugs.
I'm sorry, that sounds really scary. I'm glad you caught it now. I hope you are feeling better soon. I know its hard that your 15 mo old is weaning but you should be proud you made it that long! Good job mama!
