I've gotten a lot of books at consignment type sales for really cheap, garage sales. I don't know best way to clean but use those Lysol wipes to wipe down. We are also lucky that the neighbors pass along lots of books so I know they come from a somewhat clean place
I just bite the bullet and buy new ones. I don't have a lot though, maybe 5 or 6 board books that we read over and over. We have non board books now, too, and they're way cheaper, so that's a plus.
I guess my daughter is the only one who didn't gnaw on board books? I mainly have them so she didn't rip the pages. I did have the indestructibles books that she loved to chew on and try to rip and never could. I'd also highly recommend those.
We got a bunch of board books from the library for variety. But I didn't let her gnaw on those. We only played with them/read them when I was right there supervising to keep them out of her mouth. We do own several that she occasionally played with. You might also be able to find fabric books or those indestructible books? They seem perhaps easier to clean?
Also Usborne books has great books.. also if they get ruined they have a lifetime guarantee on them so that's also something that makes it worth spending the money on their books
Does your library system hold story time? SPL sets out books that you don't even need a library card in order to check out. Tacoma/Pierce libraries might do the same.
No clue on disinfecting. I'm clearly achoo! not much of a hack! cough germaphobe though.
To keep current books fresh, I just read them using funny voices, or take extra time to talk about the pictures, make up mini-stories about what's going on on the page.

Until they realize what you are reading and realize you are DOING IT WRONG.
