I once had a retreat where the person in charge created an obstacle course that we went through blindfolded while being guided verbally by a teammate.
The obstacle course included crawling through one of those nylon tubes that is used for cats or toddlers. One person was told ahead of time that he would have to be the guide/not the blindfolded person because he was too large.
Also, many of us were wearing skirts. And the rest of our team was silently watching in the back of the room.
I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE FEEL THE NEED TO DO THIS STUFF. Newsflash: happy hour is just as good for team-building.
Liquor always makes for the best team building. :Y:
When we were discussing ideas for my retreat, trampolining was tossed out as a suggestion. There is not a sports bra in the world that could make that idea sound appealing.

Damn. Thank god my company "togetherness" stuff is pretty much limited to lunches out together and beer drinking (two of my coworkers are award winning beer brewers...). I don't care much for beer, but they've even made a hard cider for me to drink before!

Ugh that's horrible!
DH had something like that happen where they went to an indoor race track. There was a weight limit (I think it was 250) and DH weighs over that. Not to mention there were TWO pregnant women in the group. No race cars for them.
What are the people who weigh more than 200lbs going to do while this is going on!
I'm told there's a trampoline they can bounce on?
I legit just snorted. Suddenly my old company's idea of doing 8 am yoga (it was a tech company, most people usually rolled in at 10) up a hill (with the closest public transportation a 10 min walk away plus the walk up the hill, vs in our offices next to a metro stop) doesn't sound so bad.
So if it's the place I'm thinking of, it used to be housed in the parking lot that is now Cityscape (or whatever that new development is). A parking lot. Classy.
Also, when I was a summer associate mentor, we were given a budget to do something with our mentee. One mentee went with several mentor/mentee pairs to this trapeze school. I took my mentee (and her H and mine) to a 7 course tasting menu meal. I think we know who came out ahead in that.
I cannot get over this. Once it clear that there was a weight limit (and a pretty low one at that), HOW DID THEY NOT MOVE ON?!?! (Leaving aside the obvious of how did they come up with this to begin with?) You know what is good for team building ? Individual hotel rooms.
You don't need to wear spandex or anything wetsuit-like to trapeze. Not that it's the best idea for a corporate event. We're going to do it as a Boston GTG though sometime in the next few months and there will be a whole cheering section there who's coming just for the ice cream they serve at the facility

Reason 8,397,345 I love my company. Our team building events have included - dinners out with an open bar, hosted suites at sporting events with open bars (baseball, basketball), bowling night with dinner and an open bar... is anyone else noticing a pattern here?
Seriously don't make people do this kind of crazy shit. I am actually terrified of heights. I don't think employers have any right to terrorize or torture their employees.
