When your child's ear starts draining do you have to go see the ENT or do they just get you drops? Ours told me when I see an infection to call him but I wish I'd clarified if we would have to go in. That's a $60 copay, not to mention the time off work. We do have some drops left over from his surgery that I'm wondering if I should just use.

Mine just told me to use the drops any time I saw drainage. There was a sheet with instructions for after surgery, and different instructions for infections later. I did call every time just so they could record it, which they said was good to do but we never went in.
I had drops so I started using them right away. We already had a follow up scheduled but otherwise I would have gone in. His left ear was draining but right wasnt. So we were putting drops in the left but not right because I thought only the left was.infected. Turns out they both were but the right tube was blocked. I'm glad we went in and.found that out so we did drops in the right ear for 30 days to unblock it. Had we not known and it stayed blocked we would have had to have it removed and replaced.
Long story for me to say it sucks, but I would call and see what they say at least.
Whenever DS's tubes oozed, we just did the ear drops per the ENT's suggestions. If a fever or other symptoms develop, then we get the official ear check....otherwise, use those drops and treat them like gold!
