We bought a new sofa today, so I'm selling our old set. It's brown leather, purchased 7ish years ago from big box type furniture place. The middle of the sofa is sagging slightly, but the matching arm chair and ottoman were almost unused for most of the time we had them. What would you ask on CL for the full set or for the individual pieces (and should we agree to sell individual pieces if someone asks or should we hold out to try to get rid of the full set all at once)? DH is asking way too much IMO, but I wanted to see what you guys thought.
was it one of the cheap doorbuster deals or is it a little better quality?
i'd mark it 10-20% of original price. i routinely see sales for $400 leather couches from the big box stores - i think $40-80 for a seven year old couch is reasonable. but i also think people way overestimate the value of their second hand stuff.
Hahahaha, yeah, DH is asking for waaaaay more than that. It's never going to sell. I think we paid $2500 for the sofa originally, $3500 for the set. It was overpriced, but better quality than the $400 deals. We were young, desperate for furniture and had no idea what we were doing
I price most everything at at least 50% off ( if it's like new) ,because I wouldn't pay more than that for average everyday stuff. 7 years and not great condition( sagging) would be much less.
I think CL can be dependent on your area and COL too. I would price it around $200-250 and see what happens. Always be prepared to negotiate. I would wait 5 days or so and re-list at a lower price if you don't get any bites.....and keep doing so until you do. GL!

i have a pub table with this stamped all over it. we only paid $500, but walmart had better quality set for ~$200. oh well. live and learn.
i'd still aim for the 10-20%. $350-700 for something in not great shape seems fair. i'm guessing you'll get more for the chair/otto if you sell that separately though.
