I'm trying to decide between a Saturday and a Sunday. Per a previous post I'm leaning towards a party that starts at noon, and providing a sandwich tray, pasta dish, etc. The theme is "little red wagon". We'll order a tray of wraps sliced into wagon wheels, and have a wagon wheel cold pasta dish with sun dried tomatoes.
Anyway, DS will be turning 1. There won't be a ton of kids. Just a handful, ages 1-3. Most people attending will be elderly.
Is noon the best time to aim for to avoid windows of time when kids nap?
Is it tacky to set a specific time frame on the invite? If not, is 12-2 too long? The party will be pretty simple. Mainly time to mingle.

Isn't noon a tough time? 12-2 is like prime nap time no? For one year olds anyway. I avoid 1-4 due to naps. Most parties we go to are sometime between 10-1 and 4-6.
I would probably do 11-1. That will give you a two hour window without totally pushing nap times and will still allow you to keep your menu.
I agree. M is two & his naps are generally 12-2pm. We can push it back an hour without the day being a failure. If we push it back much further he either doesn't nap, has a total melt down or doesn't sleep well that night. Or all three, it's not a pretty sight & usually takes a few days to get back on track.

We did 11:30-1:30 for DS's first birthday. He was still taking two naps at the time and it was right in between the two. People did not leave right at 1:30, it was more like 2. 11:30 gave people time to trickle in and mingle a bit before we got lunch going.
Would 2-4 be better so people aren't rushing to get home with their kids?
No, i tihnk 2-4 would be hard, because a lot of kids nap past 2. Nap time at daycare is 1230-3. If we went to a party at 2-4 it would be a no nap day for us. I think 11-1 is fine.

I am thinking our party will be about 2pm to avoid the 12pm nap time. I like to just specify start time. If it was just a kids party I would put start and end time.

I'd have trouble with 11-1 because driving home we'd be playing the "don't fall asleep in the car!" game. We did 2-5 for that reason. People who needed to come late did and it was very relaxed.
