Has anyone heard from their OB whether this is safe to use during pregnancy. It has sulfur (6%) but not salicylic acid or benzoyl per oxidase. I just need something to take care of this miserable cystic acne!
I *think* my derm gave me a sulfur wash when I was pregnant last time and it was ok, but I don't know the percentage of sulfur contained. Can you check the Proactiv website? Maybe you could call and ask a pharmacist.
I think sulfur is OK but I guess it's always safer to ask. I hear ya on the cystic acne. I normally get it often and right now I have a nice deep one growing at the base of my right nostril. It hurts like a bitch!
Also, and I would check to make sure it's 100% safe but from I researched it said it was - tea tree oil is AMAZING at reducing pimples. (at least for me it's been working wonders). I use it full strength and apply it with a q-tip to the cysts and they begin to dry out shrink within a day. You can also cut it with jojoba oil. Tea tree oil is quite strong so cutting it the first times you use it is best. Jojoba oil matches your skin's sebum and also has anti-acne properties. I have been using a mixture of castor, jojoba, and tea tree oils as a face wash for almost two years and my oily, cystic acne prone skin gets maybe one or two pimples and the texture is great! This was after crazy medications from the dermatologist.
I use the oil cleaning method, which sounds counter-intuitive given we tend to think oil = acne but I found it to work wonders when I was TTC and needed a more baby-friendly way to wash my face and control breakouts. I still get those hormonal pimples but not as much and not for as long. Here is where I first heard about it: www.crunchybetty.com/nitty-gritty-on-the-oil-cleansing-method
