Rec (or dis) your potty seat

We're getting ready to start working up to potty training. We've determined that we want a seat and not a chair.  What seat do you have and what do you like or hate about it?  Obviously we have a boy. (wait, only obviously if you can see my sig)

We had a standalone seat that we added on as needed and it just felt gross (just my own weird thing I think) and it was an additional thing to store. When I went to a friend's place and saw this I thought it was genius! The toddler seat pops off once you don't need it anymore. Easy to clean while attached. Easy for DS to pull down on his own. Just great.

I saw the seat Jem recommended at a friend's house recently and want to get one too when we're ready to potty train DS.

We used a chair for DD that played music every time she went. She liked it, but yeah, that was fun washing out after each use.

We have a bunch of different ones with characters on them that are sort of unsturdy but got him interested. The one that sits on the toilet the best without shifting is the Baby Bjorn, you can tighten it too if it seems loose.

DS2 absolutely insisted on using a chair versus a seat, presumably because they had them at preschool. His chosen seat was the FP frog potty. Neither the step ladder/seat contraption nor the frog potty would have been my first choice, but when it comes to potty training I like whatever my kids will actually use. We have the Baby Bjorn seat that a lot of people seem to like, but neither of my older kids would go anywhere near it. Maybe DS3 will be a fan.

We used seats for a very short period of time with each of our older boys, so it is not something I would want to put a lot of money into.

We had a drop in one for a while then saw these and got two for our bathrooms. I like not having to find a way to clean the drop in seat, the little guard thing always got pee on it. I still help him on when he poops because sometimes he forgets to tuck and pee goes wildly about. First rule of potty training for us was to invest heavily in bleach.

We have the same seat as Jem and love it. DS is really short, though, so he prefers the IKEA potty. Still, with the size of his butt and the fact we've got 2, we'll get a lot of mileage out of the installed seat.

Is this one a foamy one? It looks great but I hear bad things about smell. Do you have that problem or is it sealed enough to not be an issue?

We have this as well.  The tightening is really nice as we have small toilets. And no characters was key for me.

I cannot emphasize the importance of a shield for boys enough. The taller the shield, the better, as long as it prevents liquid from getting under it, too. Also, a warning that a lot of kids are afraid of the big toilet at first and it may be easier to potty train in the room they spend the most time, so you may want to get a cheap potty chair.

For anyone else reading this thread, I do not recommend the mickey mouse potty chair. It is fun and motivating, but the shield is not high enough for boys, and if they miss even a tiny bit, it all overflows underneath the padded seat and gets on the floor below.

Today, I ordered this one because it is cheap and looks like it will work way better than the one we have. ETA, it was $8.99 on zulily but the link wasn't working. I've heard great things about the baby bjorns. For regular toilets, I think the ones with the attached steps are great and I really love the built in flip down toddler seat my parent's have, but there's no shield for boys on it.

Maybe we just potty trained on the later side, but we didn't need a shield. We told DS he had to point it down when he went and he did it - we didn't have any shooting around the room problems. He was 2yrs 9 mos though, so like I said, it may be because he was older and could understand. Also, he didn't pee sitting down for long. Once he had it down, he wanted to stand like daddy. Another reason why I like the built-in seat, he mostly only uses it for poop.

yes its foam, havent had a problem with smell yet, we've had it for 3-4 months

It was nice because DS hasn't had trouble using potties when out and about. He had a little training potty, but really didn't want to use it.
