Ugh. It looks like our baby monitor is having a fight with wifi gizmos that are near the camera. Our laptops downstairs do just fine while it's running, but the internet radio we use for white noise cuts out regularly. Also, with these 4am wakeups I would really like to just move babyniq, and not babyniq plus the monitor (or worse, babyniq plus self), so switching to a monitor that supports multiple cameras is tempting.
I saw a lot of recs for Infant Optics in the last monitor thread. How does your wifi network handle it, especially when you are in the same room as the cameras?
I love our Foscam as a baby monitor. It runs over wifi to an app on our iPhones. We're about to hook up two more cameras (so 3 total). It hadn't interfered with any of our other wifi devices.
Infant optics kills my wifi to the point that we've stopped using it when we are up. we use an audio monitor until we actually go to bed ourselves. I wish we could return it, but my stupid dog chewed part of the viewer (don't worry, it still functions exactly the same in its useless, roku-killing way!). I've emailed with their tech support a bit and they don't really have any suggestions that help.
Maybe I'm missing something but our infant optics monitor has nothing to do with wifi?
That said, I'm not sure id pick it again. The video isn't very clear and I'm sure there is better out there at that price point.
Most (all?) video monitors use the same radio frequencies as wifi.
@supergreen I might give the Foscam a look, it seems to be pretty low bandwidth. Does it turn off (i.e. not send video) if you're not looking at the monitor?
That's the monitor we initially ordered (so cheap! Decent reviews!) but I returned it to Amazon after a week or so. It was just bad. WiFi was basically useless when the monitor was on, sound quality was horrid, picture was only so-so, plus there was no pan/tilt ability. I was not impressed.
I've been very happy so far. Can't beat the price. I considered just getting the Foscam web cam, but I decided I preferred to have an actual receiver unit. I have had zero problems with wifi interference.
Been using ours without a single hiccup since C was born. Doesn't mess with our wifi at all and for months it sat right next to our iPhone running a white noise app.

DH (my tech advisor) says he doesn't know. It's like "if a tree falls in the forest and no one sees it, does it make a sound? Does the video monitor relay video when you're not looking at the monitor?" ::Shrugs:: Why do you need to know? The camera in DS's room is always on, the red ring of lights around the lens are always on.
