I much prefer the simplex. I would recommend the freetime over the elemental. DH hated the elemental, I am glad we only had one. DH has since tossed it he got so fed up with it. The way the strips of fabric are connected at both ends made it hard to clean.

The elemental's soakers are sewn in at both ends, whereas the freetime has more like "flaps" that fold in together (picture has them folded out). I'll try to upload the pic if the app cooperates. The BGE has organic cotton, the FT has stay dry microsuede, which is polyester (same lining as 4.0).
I prefer the freetime right now. The elemental (original style like I have) is known for getting holes eventually around the seams. I have not heard good things about the new style elemental as it has exposed PUL and the soakers bunch up, leaving your kid sitting right against the PUL.

We have a dozen of the old style elementals and one simplex. We like them both. I bought the elementals as seconds about a year ago for $17/each... while the simplex was almost $10 more than that. If I got a similar deal on the simplex, I would have picked those, but the elementals work great. Still in great shape after a year of use, the cotton comes clean easily. I use 1/4 cup of bleach once a month after having yeast in my diapers last summer.
