Is Dunn's River Falls a must do excursion in Jamaica while on a cruise? We will only be in Jamaica for 8 hours. The excursion choices are DRF express (3.5 hours) or DRF + something else (5 hours). Other excursions are snorkeling, zip lining, beach, speed boat ride, red stripe beach. We are going with a group of 16 and a majority of the group feel the time will be wasted by doing DRF and want to skip that and do one of the shorter excursions so they can shop and lay on the beach. If it matters, it's a 5 day cruise through Royal Caribbean to Haiti & Jamaica. There will 3 days of sailing, 1 day in each port.

Yes! I've done it twice. Ocho Rios is synonymous with Dunns. It's a slippery, cold, but fun climb. I've done it when I was 9 and then 27 had fun two times there
I loved it but I'm not sure I would want it to be the only thing I did. I'd probably do beach + stop in some shops (they all pretty much sell the same thing though)
Dunns River Falls is quite fun and very beautiful. It's unique to Jamaica, so worth seeing while you're there, IMO. The beaches are beautiful too, but similar to other Caribbean beaches. It just depends on your preference. If you're up for an adventure, it fits the bill. If you want to relax, hit the beach.
Ditto on taking water shoes or some kind of water-safe foot wear with a strap. The falls can be pretty forceful.
My H and I did the same cruise you are doing last February. We did the dolphin swim/DRF combo excursion. It was definitely worth it IMO. The climb it unlike anything else I've done before, it was fun! If you want to zip line, save that for Labadee. We did the zip line there and it was awesome going over the water!
I would also recommend wearing some sort of board shorts if you are wearing a bikini. I almost lost my bottoms numerous times due to the water pressure of the falls

In my opinion, it is a must do. DH and I like outdoorsy type things a lot more than shopping/drinking/ laying on the beach. The other things you mentioned can be done in a lot of places. I hope you have a great time!
Thank you everyone! We booked the excursion. H and I are NOT beach/relax/shop type people, especially on a cruise where we'll have time to relax and do nothing while sailing. We are going with a large group and it's obviously hard to find something that interests everyone. After doing research we've all booked it though.
bonnie : We've booked the zip line in Labadee as well as the snorkel safari. In Jamaica we're doing DRF express because that will allow those who want to relax/shop/whatever the time to do that too.
