DS really likes to be cozy so I plan to keep him in sleep sacks for a while longer. But as he's approaching a year I would like to toss a blanket and pillow into his crib soon. He's had a lovey in there for months and usually has it up by his face. Last month we gave him a stuffed animal and he often uses that as a pillow.
So I really don't have questions. I'm mainly curious to know what your kiddo has in their crib - especially if they are still in a sleep sack. Thin blanket? Fleece? Mini comforter? (Do they make mini comforters?) Standard size pillow?
I don't expect him to keep himself covered with a blanket, but I imagine he'll snuggle up next to it, and probably put his head on the pillow.
DS1 had a travel sized pillow until last week when he asked for a big one. He got a mini comforter around 16 months. He frequently bring cars or trains to bed.

DS has blankets (just a A&A blanket and a soft pottery barn one) and a bunch of stuffed animals. He also has a sippy of water. He doesn't have a pillow but doesn't seem to want one. So I haven't got him one. He does sleep with the blanket all night if I put it on him in the beginning.

DD slept in her crib with just a sleep sack and lovey until she was 2.5. When we moved her to a toddler bed, we gave her a pillow and a comforter. I never thought to give her anything else in her crib and she didn't miss what she'd never experienced. Now DD insists on sleeping with 2 pillows and 4 blankets!
DD is 14 months and still in a sleep sack. I've had a knitted blanket in her crib since she was 10 months and she usually balls it up and lays on top of it. I wonder if she would like a pillow. I know starry posted about the lovey pillow a little bit ago that I might buy for her.
DS is 23 months, and sleeps in a footed sleeper under a sleep sack. 1 stuffed animal & pacifier. No blankets or pillows. My pedi said he prefers the crib to be "solitary confinement, as little in there as possible."

DS hoards blankets but he doesn't stay under one. There's usually 3-4 in there at a time that he lays on top of or next to. He throws pillows out of his crib, but there are usually a few stuffed animals in there.

Just curious-what is the reasoning behind "solitary confinement"?
Around a year old, we gave DD a toddler pillow and her crocheted baby blanket to keep in her crib.
Now at 2.5, she's currently asleep on her floor with about eleventy billion stuffed animals, a pillow pet, 2 blankets plus her bed sheet that she just ripped off. She's a nutter. But she's asleep, dammit.

we swapped the sleep sack out for an A+A dream blanket around 18 months. And added an ikea toddler pillow at 20 months which she finally started to really use around 25 months. Oh and she used to have a billion stuffed animals until I got mad one night and took all but 2 or 3 away.

Since he was around 1, DS has used a standard pillow (we put one in his crib to elevate his head when he had a cold, and he refused to give it back) and a toddler-sized sherpa-lined blanket. Plus his lovey (an A+A Issie) and whatever stuffed animals and board books he wanted to take to bed with him (he currently has a stuffed tiger from his uncle that's taller than he is, plus a big teddy bear that was mine, and a mini sock monkey doll).

DS (17 months) sleeps with his lovely and cat stuffed animal. At 16 months, we gave him a knitted blanket and two board books. He is a super active sleeper, but I do cover him with the blanket when we go to bed. He will sit before nap and bed reading to himself, it's adorable.
He wears footed sleeper with a long shelve onsie and socks.

DD (21 months) has a travel pillow, an A&A blanket, her lovey (A&A Issie), a few dolls and small stuffed animals, and a book or two. She sleeps in a fleece sleeper. The blanket doesn't stay on her, but she doesn't seem to get cold, so we haven't put the sleep sack on her lately.

Suffocation hazards, plus less for LO to throw out MOTN and cry for mommy/daddy to replace it.
And we only ditched the sleep sack because she was unzipping it
On the great advice from MMMs we turned DS's sleep sack inside out to stop him from unzipping it. He sleeps great, I don't want to change ANYTHING about his sleep setup if I don't have to.
Sleep sack until a bit past two, then she's just take it off, inside out or not. I got her a mini pillow and duvet/down comforter from IKEA and for months had to get up 1-2 times a night when she screamed for me to cover her up again. So I say keep the sleep sack on as long as possible!
Moving her to a full sized bed shortly and hoping she can keep those covers on a bit better.

Like this? LOL He does this about once a week on his own. DS just got a pillow in December, just under age 2. He's had a blanket in there since 16ish months-we ditched the sleep sack a LONG time ago though due to baby Houdini escaping. He now has a larger quilt-I put it on him once at bedtime and that's it. He often kicks it off.
He tends to be like me though and run very warm. He's in the coldest room in the house and sleeps fine with a fleece sleeper and a kicked off blanket. We keep the house at 63 at night and his room is usually about 61.
Currently, DD sleeps with a sleep sack on. In the crib, she had a smaller crocheted blanket, her angel dear lovey, a baby doll and her baby's play sippy cup. And about 468843 binkies.
She does not stay covered under the blanket and plays with the baby before and after sleeping.

Our pedi told us the same thing. So, until about 2 years old, they just had their sleep sacks and sometimes a small stuffed animal or book. After that, we did let them bring more stuff to bed and have a small toddler pillow but never a blanket b/c I was paranoid and they wouldn't keep it on. We tried it and the blanket would come untucked and then they would scream in the MOTN for us if it came off. At 2.5, we let them have a twin size comforter folded in half and the size and weight of that was easy for them to keep on along with a full size flat pillow. They used that until they move to real beds at 3y3m.
I've never heard of a kid suffocating in their crib past a year. This happens?
I have no idea, but I didn't want to find out. It was like the one thing I was paranoid about. I figure we're all crazy about at least one thing as new moms.

This is me too. I didn't want to find out. DS sleeps great, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!
Yeah, the pillow and blankets are pretty much still forboden until at least 18 months (yes, there have been deaths) BUT my daughter was a reflux baby and the pillow has been a godsend....she was making pillows out of her Seahorse at 6 months old, so at 12 months I gave in and got her a pillow. I get the flattest, most synthetic pillows $4 can buy at Ikea/Target/Walmart....and buy a lot of them because they always get thrown up on and get thrown out. I've smothered myself with it just for testing purposes and am not so sure it's dense enough to do harm...so that's how I stupidly legitimize it. (I am sort of saying this in jest, even though this is a serious topic)
DD sleeps in a sleep sack, but we have a very light toddler blanket in her crib as well (fleece) and she sleeps with that, too. Sometimes she balls it up into a pillow and uses it on the opposite end of her crib. Kid loves her fluffy stuff. I think it's really up to you...... Sort of like the whole bumper thing. It's technically not good but there are plenty of people who still do it.
My kids stayed in the sleep sack for a long time. Kept them from climbing out of the crib which allowed them to stay in the crib longer. They only slept with lovies in the crib with the sleep sack. Once they moved to toddler bed (2.5 - 3 yo) they had a pillow and blankets.
