Has anyone used care.com's option to find emergent back up care?
You can only do it if you pay the fee - which I currently have an active account open because we were posting for babysitters. It's basically set up to email all the local caregivers in your zip code to let them know of an emergent situation and I guess they can then respond.
has anyone had luck with this? it weirds me out trying to think I would just let some total stranger come to our house last minute to watch DS and never had the chance to meet/interview them.
DS is sick and of course has to be out of daycare tomorrow and I have no paid time left and it would be cheaper to have to pay someone than for me to lose an entire day of pay. And I get all stressed out missing work
We did find a few babysitters but we had them come over and meet DS and we had a mini interview with them. Then they came back at a later time to watch him. And they are both education majors at the local university and student teaching this semester so not available during the day
Can you find a SAHM friend who could be your back-up? We had a neighbor watch DS some for awhile when our daycare-at-the-time (MIL) was having health issues. It worked great and DS loved her DD who was about 6 months older.
I would not use care.com for that. I would try to find a mother's helpers service where the care givers are employees of the service. It is probably more expensive but those types of services have some screening (care.com really has no screening.)
