My car is a 2013 Subaru Outback (which was the downgrade from the Nissan Frontier I had) and my H has a 2003 Subaru WRX. (We like our Subarus, lol.) When we bought my car, I was going back and forth between the Forester, Outback, and Crosstrek. I found that the Outback seemed to have more room, even though the Forester was bigger from the outside.
I have an '02 Jeep Liberty that I got in high school..I like it, and it is a good size. Once it goes out, I'm planning to get a similar sized car. We bought my H a new Accord a year and a half ago, and really like that too- it gets great gas mileage but still has a roomy backseat.
We have a 2011 Subaru Outback and a 2013 Infiniti G37xS. We got the Outback a few years ago because we really like Subarus and we wanted something with AWD that we could haul our 2 labs around in. H used to drive a Subaru WRX STI which would have been fine with a kid, but we traded it in for the Infiniti last year so we could have 2 cars that both of us could drive (the STI was manual and I can't drive manual). We haven't tried a car seat in either car, but I'm not worried about it. It is going to be interesting the first time we have to travel with the kid and both dogs - already with both dogs we take a ton of shit - their beds, a crate, a bag with toys and food. Add kid stuff to that, it's gonna be cramped.
We have a hard sided topper for our outback and it a life saver! Maybe a great solution for dog things!

We are going back and forth between this and the one that can be towed behind the car, mainly because I am short!

I drive a 2004 Mitsubishi Galant, which I feel is pretty roomy. We haven't put the car seat in it yet but I'm guessing it'll fit just fine. My husband drives a 2000 Jeep Cherokee, which should also be large enough.
I have a 2012 Subaru Outback that I bought to accommodate the dogs and our kayaks. No shame! I've had it for 2.5 years now and the condition looks almost brand new still. I have no worries about fitting a kid and its accessories into it. I like that it's a car but sits a bit higher up. Even my sports car loving H enjoys it.
H just traded in his Hyundai 2-door on a BMW 3-series. It was the best compromise we could find - he gets a sedan that drives like a sports car and I get 4 doors.

I had a 2 door sports car when dd was born. It actually wasn't that bad. The infant seat was easy to take out when using the base. I bought a 4 door Camry before she moved into the convertible car seat. Dh is pretty tall, so we had to put the car seat behind the passenger's side. I think there are some convertibles that don't take up as much space.
Both cars didn't have a middle seat. Leather seats were a lot better than cloth. The small trunk in the sports car annoyed me at times like when I forgot to take out her stroller before going to the grocery store.
Mine is a 2006 Mercedes E class diesel sedan. I love it so much and hope it never dies. I haven't tried the carseat in it but it should be fine. I'm short so it can go behind the passenger seat so when SO drives he can still push the seat back to where he needs it. He will need to get something else though - He has big truck that needs to get sold and a tiny old Toyota something or other. They both need to go away for one sedan that will fit a baby seat and be able to tow a trailer for his dirt bike races. He wants a Cadillac CTS-V but they don't come in automatic so I wouldn't be able to drive it. Or I could just learn to drive manual but that would suck.
I'm a little jealous of you Yaris owners, I think those are adorable.
I have a Lexus RX 350, DH has a Buick Enclave. Both are great for car seats. When DS was born I had a Honda Civic and it was so awkward getting the infant seat in and out.
I drive a 3 door Toyota Yaris hatchback (really only 2 doors but thats what they call it.) I had to move my DD from behind the passenger seat to behind my seat because I couldn't fit the infant base behind my seat. I love my little car so much we aren't planning on replacing it until it breaks down (its 7 yrs old and been paid off for a couple of years now.) It's annoying having to push up my seat to let DD in the back, but I've been doing it for over 5 yrs and don't mind it now. My husband has to buy a new car when he gets back from deployment because I crashed and totaled his Nissan Altima (which was the family car.) We're planning on looking and maybe purchasing the Nissan Rogue as our new family car. DH really wants an SUV this time and its one of the smallest and has good MPG.
Yaris High-Five! lol
omg im so jealous! I bought mine brand new in 2007 when they first came out and they didn't have the 5 door hatchback option back then. I jokingly tell DH I would trade mine in for the 5 door because I love my little Yaris so much. He hates my clown car as he calls it because he's 6'2 and doesn't really fit comfortably in my car lol. We always take his car when we got out as a family.

When I first got it and was still making a payment on it, DH joked that maybe when it was paid off, they might give me the other half of the car.
VW Passat Wagon. My previous car was a subaru legacy wagon but it gave up the ghost a few months back. It was a great car. I am loving the passat wagon.
I am a big fan of the Wagon and it saddens me that there aren't a lot of station wagons getting produced these days. Since I hate SUVs and mildly dislike minivans, a wagon is everything we need. It easily fits the carseats (with room for my 6'2 husband to sit in either driver or passenger seat comfortably), and our 110lb dog. With a roofbox on top we can comfortably take a weekend trip skiing or camping or whatever. gets great gas mileage and isn't huge.
If we have a third child I'm confident we could fit three across, the dog and gear, without needing a minivan.
Haha, add us to the Subaru camp! H had an Acura, but he traded it in for what he affectionately calls his "Dadmobile", an Outback. We wanted to have something more like an SUV. I always had Jeeps, but I have a Prius now so the Subie is for the nasty weather days and future camping trips and soccer games.
You can try carseats for size at BRU - I would swing by there on a test drive. (Or take your infant seat along and install it at the dealer. No one batted an eye at me when I did that.) Remember that an infant seat on a base takes up more room than when it's just strapped in with a seatbelt.
I have a tall husband and I'm on the taller side. A lot of SUVs had surprisingly little room (we were crunched on the dash) and some sedans are surprisingly roomy. I ended up getting an Acadia because I have herniated discs in my back and was having a hard time lifting her out of a car vs crossover.
