Important shoe question -- opinions needed

OK, so I used to be young and wear heels and wedges all the time, but now I'm old and my feet always hurt, and I just want to be comfy.

So.  I'm looking for spring/summer footwear.  Something that'll go with casual dresses or jeans/shorts.  Something pretty multi-functional.

I can't believe I'm about to type this.  I hate myself a little right now.  But I think I'm debating between Toms or Birkenstocks.  I am in ugly, elderly hipster hell.

SO.  Which do you prefer?

I have Toms and Birkenstocks and I think I'm young and cute.

I love both, but Birkenstocks are much more comfortable.

I think you will get more use out of the Birkenstocks. I have Toms and they are comfortable but I don't wear them nearly as much as my sandals.

I live in Houston, where summer is hotter than hell.  So I either wear Havianas or cheap sandals from F21.  I have them in a metallic color and a tan color.

These are cute.  I worry about arch support, though.  But I do like them, and for less than $10, I can certainly give them a try.

I own these. My feet haven't hurt me wearing them and standing in long lines/walking around. I love them.

I second pagas's recommendation for cheapie Forever 21 sandals.
I've actually worn mine for a couple of summers, and they are still in good shape (I think they were only $14).

Sanuk sandals? The ones with "yoga" in the name have yoga mats for footbeds. They are so dang comfortable.
