Am I wrong to think that someone inviting you on their boat would mean you'd spend the majority of the time out on the lake in the boat with them? We were invited to go boating by some friends and then found out that they also invited 20+ other people. The boat is a 8-10 passenger boat.
Yeah, that's lame. Unless, they really think that only a small portion would respond yes. But even so... Do they have a home where the boat is docked or is it just at a marina?
That is bizarre. We just rented a boat for our friends, and we invited 10 friends because the boat held 12. Now if it is docked at their lake home and they're actually having a big party there and doing a little cruising/water-skiing/etc. throughout the party, that would be fine. Otherwise, weird.
They don't have a lake home or dock-they just said everyone would be meeting at the boat launch in a town about an hour from us. I guess I didnt understand what we were suppose to do the rest of the time.

Thats werid, I would ask what the deal is. Maybe everyone is suppose to hangout on the beach and they are just taking people on short rides. We had a boat and we would never invite more people then what we had life jackets for. you can get a ticket around here for that.
Ditto Jenny, I was presuming there was a lakefront home or a dock, and refreshments to enjoy while the others take a spin on the boat. Expecting you to stand around at the boat launch is odd. Is there at a bar there at least?
I was going to say not weird because I assumed they lived on the water and were hosting a party. It's bizarre that they are expecting people to just chill at the boat launch.
Agreed. I went to a big party last summer that involved a boat that could only hold about 4-5 people (plus another few on a tow behind toy), and the other 30+ people were hanging out and eating/drinking up at the house, swimming in the lake, or lounging on the grass by the lake watching the little kids splash about inside the dock area. This was perfectly fun and awesome. But to just hang out at a boat launch with nothing else going on? Um, no thanks.

We only ever invite the maximum number of people our boat can hold. It would be weird to invite more. Also, as a boater, I would be annoyed at a group of 10+ people hanging out at the launch if they were just sitting on the dock. They are for loading and unloading.
If you do go, please be mindful of the other boaters and give them ample access to the docks. I'd also probably get there early, go on the first ride and then leave.
