Jumping over from MM Moms with a Hilton Head question. We want to take a trip there this summer with my entire family, so 12 people. Does anyone have recs on where to stay? I looked on vrbo, but was overwhelmed. I don't know which areas are best. We don't need to be on the beach but would like to be able to walk there. Would appreciate any input!

I grew up there, so I'd be happy to help with recommendations. The island is mostly rentals, so it can be overwhelming for sure. What's the age range for your family? What kind of things are you looking to do? What about budget?

Thanks so much! We'll have little kids (5 and under), so ideally we'd like to have access to a pool. The guys will also want to golf. I think our budget will be around $1500 - $2000 for a week. Is that possible?
The island isn't really set up for large groups without money. All of the bigger houses are on the beach and will run you that much per night, not per week. You might be able to fit 12 people in a small 3-4 bedroom, when you put kids on pull-out couches and whatnot. You won't be on a beach for that price, for sure. Likely not walkable either. It'll likely be a townhouse or condo, so there will be a pool for the community.
Also, places like that tend to go really quickly. The same families rent the same places year after year and book them a year or more in advance. Your best bet is to just look at homeaway or vrbo and find something that will fit your budget and size requirements. If you narrow it down by your dates, it'll lessen the field considerably. There won't be much. You'll probably end up in Palmetto Dunes, which will be good for your family.
The island has a VERY strong schedule of checking in to your rental on Sunday and checking out on Saturday. For the best availability, make sure that your dates follow that trend. A lot of rental companies won't even rent to you if you want to check in or out on different days.
