This weekend we started working on the half bath. The plan was new tile floor with heating mat underneath, baseboard molding, beadboard, chair rail, toilet, pedestal sink, door casing, and door. We had hoped to finish tiling the floor by the end of the weekend, so the toilet could go in soon.
As of right now, we haven't even started the floor yet. - We ripped up the old floor and found old layers of flooring that were mildewy from a leak in the toilet. - When we pulled everything out, we realized the wall was badly bowed (which was why the molding buckled.) When we cut away the sheetrock, we realized that the sink drain was permanently affixed in concrete so that it was sitting proud of the studs. The sheetrock bowed around it. - We could see daylight from the bathroom into the garage.
So we ended up taking it down to the studs, building out the studs so new sheetrock would sit flush, re-insulating, and hanging new sheetrock. Taping is still to go.
THEN we can start the floor, and everything else. Ugh. For one 4x5' room, this thing is going to be a bitch.
Oh man that sucks I am sorry. I know all about the expanding projects, and even those that don't expand, but take so much longer than you anticipate! I bet it will look awesome when it's done though!
It seems like that always happens when we start a remodel! Yes it's a small room but bathrooms are difficult because there are so many pieces that need to come together and it seems like everything has a drying time. It actually seems like a quick turn around time to me so I wouldn't get to stressed out over extending it. You still have other bathrooms you can use that are just a floor away. No big deal.
I'm so sorry! At least you could address the issues and make it whole. I was so nervous about finding molds or something when we did our big project. So far so good - but we haven't tackled a bathroom yet....

I think this is why we didn't touch the kitchen floor. It's crooked and there are some cracked tiles, but if I pull it up, I'd have to even out the floor.
