I don't think you have to worry about the recline and sleeping. Even a regular convertible seat leans back a bit when RF. We switched DS around 6/8 months and he still ALWAYS fell asleep.
But we have a Boulevard in a Corolla with no issues. Middle placement.
We have a Britax Rounabout 55. It fit just fine in our Chevy Malibu, and it reclines. If you want something smaller, the Combi Coccoro is great for small cars.
I have a Chrysler 200. We have a NextFit and a Britax Roundabout 55. They both fit great in the car. The NextFit actually fits better in the car than the infant seat (KeyFit). The passenger seat didn't have to be pushed as far/straight up with the NextFit.
