I noticed some dark brown blood this morning after going to the bathroom. I called the nurse and she said it's probably nothing but she sent me to the Triage at the hospital because I didn't know my blood type. Apparently you have to have some medication if you're a certain blood type and start bleeding. They took my blood and also did an u/s. Baby is measuring at 6weeks3days, almost exactly what I predicted. And we got to see the heartbeat! Everything seemed to be ok, so I'm crossing my fingers that the bleeding doesn't come back. Did anyone else experience bleeding? It's relatively normal, right??
I had the exact same thing happen just shy of 8 weeks--turns out it was a subchorionic hematoma and I had spotting for nearly four weeks. Oh, and since I'm Rh negative I did have to get a rhogam shot.
It made me totally anxious, so I did a bunch of reading on PubMed (because I'm a little crazy), and here's what I learned: if you've seen the heartbeat and the baby is measuring the correct size, spotting/light bleeding causes no problems in somewhere between 92-96% of cases. I tried to reassure myself that the overwhelming odds were in my favor. It's really, really common to have bleeding in the first tri, and it's really stressful, but in most cases it's nothing serious at all.
I've spotted twice during this pregnancy, both times I was around 8 weeks. It's very normal to have spotting, whether it's pink, red, or brownish, so long as it's not very heavy bleeding.
The fact that you got to see the heartbeat is excellent news! Congrats!

I had some bleeding between 5-6 weeks as well, dark red with some minor clots. Blood tests and ultrasounds showed either a subchrionic bleed or early demise of a twin. We did see a heartbeat at 6 weeks exactly.
My OB said the bleeding is normal and not really a reason to worry, especially once we saw a heartbeat. It's hard not to, though! I didn't have any bleeding with my first and kept running up until I was 6 months, but since the bleeding this time started after a run, I've only been able to convince myself to walk since.
I had some brown spotting also which my midwife said I should expect due to some normal pregnancy related cervical cysts which bleed easily. Its only happened a few times but it always freaks me out. Even though my midwife said word for word "Do not freak out if you notice some bleeding or spotting." Glad everything is ok!

I had bright red spotting at 10 weeks 6 days...It was a clot outside of the placenta. Everything has been fine since then. I did have light brown spotting after as I finished passing the clot.
Hearing the heartbeat is awesome news. I know how very scary and concerning this can be but try to relax as much as possible. This happens quite frequently and things often turn out ok.

I had brown spotting just before 6 weeks so I went in for an ultrasound on the day I was 6 weeks and saw the heartbeat and everything was fine. I had some brown tissue spotting about a week and a half later, but just tried not to worry about it (easier said than done, but I figured there was nothing I could do at that point anyway) and sure enough everything has turned out fine. I did have to get the Rhogam shot as well because of my blood type.
I'm not sure of the cause for me, but it seems that brown spotting is very normal and things usually turn out fine as long as there are no cramps or other abnormal things happening. It seems like almost everyone I have talked to irl who has been pregnant has experienced some sort of spotting.
I don't want to be a debbie downer but spotting isn't really considered "normal" however it is "common" throughout your pregnancy. On the pregnancy I had with DD I had a SCH I bleed heavy a few times plus spotting for almost 8 weeks. I had amazing outcome though. However last time I had a spotting at almost 10 weeks I had a missed m/c. So it's very important to get checked out either way.
I am glad you where able to see the heartbeat and had a good outcome! This is great news.
I had bright red blood with a big clot in it at 4 weeks. That freaked me out, especially as I was cramping as well. It was the same day I got my BFP. Turns out it was 'nothing'. I had a scan at 6 weeks and I saw the heartbeat. It does seem to be more common than we realise.
I had brown spotting/bleeding from 5-10 weeks, consistently, with one episode of heavy red bleeding that sent me to the ER in a panic. The ER missed it, but my OB diagnosed me at 6w3d with a subchorionic hematoma. During the spotting, I was not allowed to exercise, lift anything heavy, or have sex, and I was supposed to be home with my feet up whenever I wasn't working. It was awful to go through, especially considering I had just had a loss. Luckily now it's been 3 weeks without bleeding and baby is doing great. I'm so glad you got to see the heartbeat. That really increasing your odds that everything will be ok. ((Hugs)) hang in there!

This was me exactly with my DS. It made me so anxious but everything turned out fine. I had two mc after him and didn't have a spot of blood with either of them. Go figure! Hang in there!
Just wanted to add that I just had some spotting this morning, for the third time this pregnancy. We just had an ultrasound a couple days ago and baby looked great and healthy, so I'm not too worried. It's definitely nerve-wracking, though!

Glad everything looks ok. It could be an irritated cervix or something.
Like pp said, if you are Rhesus negative you need a shot at 28 weeks and at birth plus if you have any bleeding throughout your pregnancy. It's no big deal except if you don't get the shot.
