There used to be a MM'er who rented her house out for the a pretty big movie. As I remember it, she didn't have to register for anything, they approached her first.
It can be a major disruption and a they do not always compensate you enough for the hassle. I have a friend who does it but mostly for the bragging rights.
We looked into this in our old apartment. There was a show that filmed often in our neighborhood and they left a flyer asking to rent out our place. It was going to be too much of a hassle because we would have had to remove a lot of our personal items and find another place to stay. It didn't work out that we could, for example, be on vacation during filming. I can't remember the amount of compensation they were offering but we decided it wasn't worth it. And even so, we weren't even sure they would have picked our apartment. As I recall, they had a few places in mind.
I would never ever do this. DH used to work on film and we have a lot of friends who still do. Usually a location scout will approach you about it. My friend asked us about using our house for a film he was art directing with an up and coming director and we laughed at him.
The crew may end up damaging your home during the shoot, I've known crews to punch holes in walls (not good crews, mind you) and then they don't repair them, or repair them badly. It's a hassle and you're not well compensated for the disturbance.
I would probably think this was a cool thing to do if I didn't work in the entertainment industry. But the reality doesn't make the bragging rights worth it.

They usually approach homeowners, I'm not sure if there's a way to be "on a list". I know of 2 people who have had their houses used in movies (MN has had a ton of movies filmed here!), but they both said that, while it was exciting at first, it was a huge hassle. The houses were both damaged (minor stuff) and the compensation for using the house was peanuts.
