I go to group appointments. We weigh ourselves and write it down in our charts (we also do our own blood pressure/pulse). I'll admit that I weigh myself naked, after using the bathroom, and before eating anything the morning of each appointment, on my own bathroom scale, and I use that weight instead of the one from the scale in the doctor's office. They're probably pretty close, but that way I don't have to worry about what I've eaten, when I used the bathroom, or what I'm wearing, I just use my naked weight every time. I think it's a better measurement of how much I've actually gained, because clothing, shoes, etc can weigh a lot….and drinking a lot of water or eating a meal right before can obviously affect what the scale says too.
That's basically how they do it at my office, although there is a chair where I remove everything I possibly can. Also, yes, I dress as light as I can. It'll be much easier this summer.

Mine does it the same way but they take you to the room first so you can put your stuff down. They don't have you take your shoes off so I just try to wear lighter shoes.
What bothers me is that the nurse really rushes through the weight and doesn't get a very accurate number (they do not have a digital scale). The number never matches the numbers I get at home. This is really going to start bothering me when I start gaining weight.
So far I have maintained my weight (went down in first tri now back to baseline) but according to the doctor's scale I have gained 1 lb...I know it is little I just don't want an unnecessary weight talk.
Mine does it that way too, and it drives me nuts! And they do it before I get to pee, so I also have a full bladder (but at least that's consistent). It also annoys me that they take that information at random times of the day, depending on when my appointment is. Obviously that isn't something they can change, but sometimes eating/drinking for 8 hours since I woke up adds a pound or two.
Same as you - exterior waiting room to weigh-in alcove and then to a nurse's office for BP check and urine sample. Then to an interior waiting room to go back to an exam room to see the dr.
I was caught off guard the first time too, lol. H has been with me to all appts so far so as the call me back and we start walking, I throw my coat, purse, etc at him. I also take my shoes off before stepping on.

The nurse has me drop my purse and coat off in the room and walk back out in the hallway to weigh myself. I don't have to take my shoes off. It's not the most accurate since I have appointments at different times of day and might have a full bladder some days. I track my weight at home.
They have a little table next to the scale so I always set my coat and purse down and then I always take the time to take off my shoes or boots. I then just walk to the room without my shoes on and put them back on there.
After I get called back, I immediately go pee in a cup, then bring it to the lab. I put my stuff on the chair in there, step on the scale, and then I sit in the chair to get my blood pressure/temp taken. After the vitals are taken care of, I'm shown to an exam room.
It's been identical between my regular OB and MFM.
Leave coat in waiting room, sign in, give urine sample.
As soon as I get to exam room, they weigh me. The scale is digital and in the exam room, but there is a chair there. I always take off my shoes and a coat if I still have it on.
The scale is right outside the exam rooms so I put my stuff in the room and take off shoes, then step out to the scale. I pee as soon as I check in, lately I've had to wait at least 45 minutes to even get in a room. I made sure to get a morning appt next time so it won't be as long.
The scale at the gym seems to be about 1 lb lighter than the doctor's scale so I use that to see where I'm at between appointments. Next appt will be at a different location so who knows how close their scale is to the other office.

This is what I should have been doing all along! It drives me crazy that my starting weight was an empty-stomach, naked weight taken at home, and now they are calculating my gain based on that number. I'm consistently 5 lbs higher at my appointments than I am at home, because of all my clothes, etc.
I get called back, weigh myself and leave a urine sample for the nurse with my weight written on a post-it note - so I could totally have been writing my home weight this whole time! Next pregnancy...
