DH and I raised chickens for eggs a couple of years ago. They were cute and affectionate for about 3 months. Then they just became crap machines. We gave them away a year ago, and after some research, I'm afraid that we got the best egg-laying years out of them, and gave away.....well, just crap machines. We haven't heard anything, so I guess the new owners are happy with them.
My sister has chickens and I swear it is the most love hate relationship I've ever seen anyone have with anything. She is determined to gets eggs out of them but it has been a year and a half and she's pretty much just got poo.
All hens stop laying at some point. What will you do then?
Coddle them into old age, until they die happily in my arms.
LOL yeah ok. Let me know how that goes. A word from the wise, don't get too attached. It makes it harder to kill and eat them. And it isn't humane to butcher *snort* a job like that.

I know you are probably joking, but my mom would totally do this. I told her she is not allowed to get chickens because in 5 years she would have all of these useless fat chickens and she would never eat them. This is the reason we had goats for 12 years. They FINALLY all died off this last year.
