OMFG heads are going to roll- update to dog throwing up

I brought my dog back this morning. Re-told entire story to Vet#4 (he's at a large 24hr Critical Care Center). Come to find out they never ran the blood work that Vet#3 said was normal yesterday. Also the pancreas results that were supposed to be back today - NEVER SENT OUT EITHER!! We just moved to the are so we've only seen his actual vet once for vaccines. She's out of the office till Monday.  I called for her advice.  I also called his breeder (she's a surgical vet tech) and she gave me advice (treat the pancreatitis, wait a little for the surgery). He'd better be ok. Right now im conflicted. To my knowledge this is the only 24hr facility in Cincinnati.  There is a sister site in Dayton, but not sure if I want him transferred there. I demanded the blood work, pancreas blood work, and pancreatitis treatment since that is inflamed as well and I want it NOW with a rush. I'd better get I'd back today as the labs are closed tomorrow.  I'm waiting for the 2nd ultrasound before surgery.  Two X-rays and one ultrasound showed no foreign body - only the first.

Wow. That's frustrating. I'm sorry you and your pup are going through this. How is the pup doing btw?

So frustrating for you! My dog had a severe case of pancreatitis. He was in the hospital for 4 days/nights. He would not eat at all. He also had bloody diarrhea that just dripped out of his butt. It was gross. It started out as vomit, though not as severe as your dog. The vet said the only way to confirm a pancreatitis diagnosis was some fancy test at U of Texas where they had to ship his blood. It took a week or more to get it back. Our ultrasound was inconclusive for pancreatitis.

Anyway, it took a lot of fluids and about 3 weeks until he was back to normal. He is on a low fat diet to keep it from coming back (he is 16 yrs old and got this when he was 14). Hope he is feeling better soon! Just thought I would offer my experience.

I know your regular vet is out of the office until Monday but were you able to reach her at all? Our vet has an emergency line that you can still reach them outside of regular office hours.

I asked for her emergency line and was told she's not checking her messages and this was her ONLY Saturday off. I may be looking for a new vet after this as well. One thing at a time....

Thanks, that would be helpful.  I may not move him since his current place is literally around the corner from where I work so during the work week I can visit easily and it's close to where I live, but if they keep fucking up I'll know what my options are.

Thanks, that would be helpful.  I may not move him since his current place is literally around the corner from where I work so during the work week I can visit easily and it's close to where I live, but if they keep fucking up I'll know what my options are.

I have lived in Cincinnati all my life. Which e vet are you using? if you need a vet recommendation, I can help. I love ours. They are fantastic. I am very familiar with cincy if you want to pm.

They didn't charge me. I should have noticed even though the bill had about 15 line items. Ghost is going to recommend some other places.

Blood work came back ok except slightly low white blood cell count. Ultrasound (by a different specialist than the first) didn't detect foreign body. He's still on IV fluids and antibiotics for the pancreatitis. We're going to wait and evaluate each day before going in to look for a foreign body and we're going to watch the pancreatitis. If his levels drop then they'll go in surgically. He's still not eating or deficating (he did go for me this morning) but he hasn't eaten anything so that's not surprising. I'm going to go visit with him in a bit and take him for a walk. He's still mobile, his tummy is just a little tender. Thank you for all the support. It's helping me get through this and not fall apart.

OMG, I would not be able to control my rage!! I know I was so scared when Willow had to be rushed to the vet because of vomiting and incontroled shaking. If they hadn't given me any answers and basically lied to me, I don't know if that vet office would still be standing.

Pancreatitis can be really rough, so that may be the only issue. I hope they are more responsible in getting him sorted out. Good luck and keep us updated!

Surgery is going to happen sometime soon (late afternoon or early evening). I went and visited with him, signed all the papers, and paid all the money I needed. Now just anxiously waiting for him to go in (there was a critical case ahead of him) and come out. T&Ps please.

Are they checking his digestive track for a foreign object or is this just to operate on his pancreas?

Primary objective is foreign body but with the pancreas and swollen intestines/stomach they are going to take samples for biopsy as well. He still hasn't gone in yet.
