Just curious, what kind of soda was it? Did she pick the fully caffeinated stuff or the slightly better, but still sugary alternative?
It was some nasty orange stuff, I think Crush? Do they still even make that?
The upside is that it wasn't caffeinated soda. lol
So according to my EXTENSIVE internet research in the last two minutes, technically she didn't give him soda, just flavored sugar water. Hi-C Orange Lavaburst (which is what that orange crap is according to McDonalds' website has no caffeine or carbonation.
For the record, I'm on your side. I was pissed when a friend gave my kids essentially carbonated natural juice.
I don't understand these grandparents. You can be fun grandma while still following bedtime and feeding them normal food (with an occasional cookie or ice cream of course!)
My mom doles out time outs with the best of them, is good about bedtime And makes them eat their vegetables but my kids still scream and run to the door every time she comes over!

My mom does the same thing. It's really okay. I was just really upset last night that my first night back with G was him throwing epic tantrums.

I wasn't directing that at you! More at all the other stories people were also telling.

It makes me kind of sad when grandparents think the only want their grand kids will like them is with soda and candy and late bedtimes. My mom is good about DS's eating and bedtime but my stepmother has explicitly said that she will let DS do "all the things your parents think are bad." And then she wonders why we've never asked her to babysit.
OP, I'd be pissed too! Hopefully all that sugar is out of his system today!
I understand your frustration, I do. And I am all for grandparent babysitting and would do it again in your case and when I asked them to babysit again, I would just say "hey, next time you babysit, can you get him a milk with the happy meal and try to get him to sleep closer to 9 than 11?"
My kids are a tired mess the day or so after being with the grandparents. Even when we are with them for the weekend at the one set that is out of town. They are just off, sleeping somewhere that isn't normal and going to bed later than normal. Throw in some McD's and sugary drinks, OMG. THey take a good day or two to get back into our routine.

I will say, some of the best memories of my great-grandmother are spending the week with her and having ice cream sundaes for breakfast. Yum. No clue what my parents thought, but it was heaven eating them with her in her breakfast nook. I can still smell her and vividly remember the sprinkles and cherry.

Yes, I remember the bottomless candy drawer, boxes of ice cream sandwiches in the freezer all for me, soda galore and butter rum Lifesavers for the taking. The best memories of my sleepovers at my grandparents house. :*)
I know this doesn't help you luvvy, but it's pretty much what grandparents do.
