How would you style this?

I originally bought this denim vest to wear over maxi dresses so that I could wear my strapless/ thin strap maxi dresses to work (I work in a super casual environment, but still like to keep my shoulders covered).

It looks great with my maxi dresses, but I'm looking for some other outfit suggestions. I feel like jeans plus this is way too much denim, Any thoughts? (I really only wear dark blue jeans, if that helps)

Along the same lines, anyone have any recs for a short sleeved cardigan I can wear over tanks/dresses? I'm a small busted, size 16/x/l at gap/j. crew/etc, which is an annoying size to shop for.
