Where in their signatures, instead of baby tickets and stuff, people list the credit cards they've been approved for and theirs pending limits? What kind of madness is this! I had two thoughts: (1) MM on steroids; and (2) way to invite identity theft.
OK, Let's be honest: (3) a $4K credit limit is really not something to brag about.
Lol yes. I found them when I was googling how long I had to dispute a collections call before it showed up on my credit report (not my fault- the hospital was payed by my car insurance company, but lost the check and sent it to collections, and I hadn't paid it because I had in writing that the car insurance company paid the bill).
Way to make a girl feel exceptionally poor. That one person has a higher line of credit on all of their cards than I could ever dream of making in a year.
Yes, I'm ashamed to admit I know about this. I will say there is a very ingenious group of people who figured out how to make $ off the big banks this way. You get more and bigger credit limits, pay them off responsibly, then get large limit/no interest cards and invest the money into short term CDs. Wallah! Cash in the CD, pay off the card, keep the interest, rinse, repeat.
Dude, this is a lot of credit cards...I wonder what his debt looks like Current Cards: American Express:Grandfathered Blue Cash CL 34k member since 89 Chase Freedom CL 7.5k member since 04 Chase Marriot Rewards Premier CL 20k member since 13 Chase Sapphire Preferred CL 25K member since 13 Bank Americard Cash Rewards Signature Visa CL 14k member since 11 Discover Cashback Bonus $10.5k member since 11 US Bank Cash + Signature Visa 15k member since 12 Citibank Thank You Preffered World Mastercard $16.5k member since 14
Just because you have a lot of credit cards with high limits doesn't mean you have a lot of debt.
From what I've read, it seems that a lot of those people have come back from really poor credit scores. They get and give advice on how to get higher credit limits and how to manage your credit rating. In my opinion, it's like putting a weight loss ticker in your siggy on a weight loss forum.

We have a lot of credit cards and cancel/open them all the time to earn the most miles/points. I have never carried debt on a card, they get paid off in full every month. DH considers it a fun game to try and earn as much travel crap as possible. I just get annoyed with having to update autopay stuff so often, but we earn a lot of free travel from it.
Do you have $142k+ in credit cards? That was my biggest surprise with the above, I get people having several cards for several reasons, but that could buy a house.

People get different credit cards for the different rewards/bonuses. They keep the ones they already have because it looks good on your credit to have open credit cards with low balances for long periods of time. That's why that person put that he's had that CC since 1989. It looks good on his credit report.
It is not advised to open a CC and then cancel it. Just pay it off, keep it open, and don't use it if you don't want to.
