I know nothing about dogs. I didn't grow up with them, I've never had one, I'm allergic to them, and frankly, I really don't like dogs, at all (sorry!). But, my sister and her dog moved in with us a few months ago, and the dog hair is making me crazy. She's a large white lab and her hair is EVERYWHERE. So, my question is, over time, do you just get used to the hair being everywhere? Or, do you just not notice it after a while? Or do you see it, but don't care, because you just love your dog so much? She brought her Dyson with her but A., she doesn't use it nearly as much as she needs to, and B., I just finished vacuuming the entire downstairs and there's still hair all over the place.
I'm struggling, a lot, and I just wonder how other people see it. Thanks!
I have a chihuahua that sheds a lot but it doesn't bother me too bad. If it was a lab shedding everywhere then I may break out the vaccum more but overall it's apart of having a pet. I just except it. I can understand why it would bother you more since you didn't grow up around dogs nor care for them.

I grew up in a house with a golden retriever. We vacuumed daily, but also embraced the hair as a part of our decor, because no matter how many times a day we vacuumed, it seemed to multiply.
And then, when we had to put her down in the summer, we didn't want to vacuum the hair. Fucked up. lol

Is there a good backstory as to why you let your sister and her large dog move in with you, when you are allergic to dogs and don't like them? No judgments, maybe it was a situation where this was necessary so I was curious....
I don't have dogs but I have cats...there is admittedly probably more fur than I realize simply because I am used to it. However I keep a (decently) clean house and so it's not as though it's a fur-fest in there. It must not be too bad because if it was, my mother would be sure to tell me so :-)
I have two furry huskies. I put a Roomba on each floor; the cleaning lady empties the Roomba's weekly; done. I have no fur problem. Or a small fur problem.

There's a decent backstory. She has some mental illnesses (some diagnosed, some I'm not so sure about ) She got divorced about a year ago, and got a house in the settlement. She seemed to be doing okay, until one day, she just wasn't. She didn't want to ask to live here, but needed a place that wasn't her house that she used to live in with her ex. My H & I offered our home for several reasons- she is only 2 hours from her house, we're the closest family she has by about 400 miles, and as my H put it, it's less stress having her here as opposed to 2 hours away, as I was always worried & waiting for the next call to get there because she was in a bad place or whatever. At least now I know where she is and how she is doing mentally, instead of guessing based on what she tells me over the phone. It's been really hard, but there's not really an alternative-she's my sister, you know?
Thanks. Yes, I need to ask her to run the Dyson daily. She has a list of tasks that she needs to complete each week (from her therapist), but this is the thing that's going to push me over the edge, so it's going to have to happen.

Makes perfect sense and that is very kind of you. Not sure how allergic you are but I know my mom (allergic to cats) can barely be at my house for 2 hours before she is a total mess, it's pretty bad. I hope you guys can figure out some ways to make things better with the hair!
