My mom wants to put together a big "reunion" over Christmas time this year. It would be her and my dad, my two sisters and their families, my husband and kids, my in-laws and my sisters' in-laws. So we'd probably need at least 5 rooms (preferably a little larger units like timeshare type units instead of hotel rooms). We will be traveling from ND, SD, MN, and Washington DC. Any ideas of places to go that we could go? Everything is expensive to fly to from the Midwest. Hawaii is out because I don't want to fly from DC to Hawaii with 3 kids. I've thought of southern TX? Southern CA? FL? (FL seems boring to me, but maybe I haven't visited the right areas.) Caribbean? The major airlines most of the families will be flying are Delta or Frontier. We can take any airline out of DC. Any ideas on where to get rentals over Christmas? It will have to be right over Christmas because we have several teachers in the group.
Thanks for the suggestions! Tucson might be great actually....I hadn't thought of that! With so many people flying in, I'd like to keep air fare at $500 pp or so.
I was also going to suggest San Juan. You might have luck finding rentals in Luquillo or El Dorado, where there are lots of condo complexes right on the beach.
I know American Airlines flies there for sure, as well as Jet Blue. Not sure about Delta. Flights to PR from NY are usually more affordable than flights to California or lots of other parts of the continental U.S.
PR sounds GREAT! I hadn't thought of that, and bonus that no passport requirement for my sister's kids. Any recs on where to rent these condos through?

San Diego isnt going to be beach warm but it will be warmer than where everyone is at Lots of stuff to do but it does get a bit busy with the 2 bowl games around Christmas. You can probably get a nice rental in Carlsbad (about 30 miles north of downtown San Diego) near the beach if you book now. We get lots of tourists from AZ over Christmas so some stuff can book up quickly.
As for Florida- what about the Keys or something on the Gulf coast. If you dont need to be entertained and mainly just want something quiet/relaxing so you can spend time with family you can look into Sarasota or Longboat Key. They are about an hour south of Tampa (Sarasota does have an airport) and the beaches are nice and the weather is decent.
