Does anybody know if your passport still has to be valid for 6 months when you travel? Or does it just have to be valid? Mine expires in June 2014 but I just heard I need to travel outside of the US for a job interview next week and I don't have enough time to renew my passport. As long as it doesn't expire while I'm there, I should be good, right? Does anybody have a link with more info?
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime. Mark Twain

It's even more tricky than that. I live in the US with a Dutch passport and green card. To renew my passport I have to travel to the nearest Dutch consulate and I don't think I can get a new passport super quickly. I will call someone to make sure I need it though.

I'm pretty sure your EU passport has to be valid on the day of departure from the EU (so the day you leave in case that was confusing). If I remember right from another post you will be traveling to a Schengen area country so getting there should be fine. Not sure what the passport requriements to get back into the Us are especially when you have a greencard. And unfortunately I cannot find an official link that supports what I just said. I found several answers googling just not an official link. That probably wasn't all that helpful but I figured I would throw it out there anyway.
found link for US entry so it looks like you will be fine coming back too.
To check if 6+ months validity is required for, say, Thailand, I Google "consular information sheet Thailand" and read up on the requirements for American citizens from the US State Department.
My recommendation to you is to find the similar page by the Dutch authorities for travel to the US. Does that page mention anything about passport validity?
I've heard that the 6 month requirement is put in place in case you get ill and have to be hospitalized in the country you're traveling to. They don't want you to overstay your visa by being hospitalized. Since you're a green card holder that wouldn't be a concern.

Thanks! I think I am ok. The Swedish website says you have to have a valid EU passport to be granted the right to stay for 3 months. No mention of how long it needs to be valid for.
