Today Was the tipping point. I thought I could stick it out and be part of restructuring the program over the next few years. And in the process create to job I want instead of the job I have. But today's nasty-gram email was just it. I'm done. And today is my first day back from vacation even!
I'm 5 moths pregnant, and want to stick it out through my maternity leave an a bit afterwards. But my goal is to be in another position a year from now.
Problem is: I have a liberal arts degree in a small town in a rural state. Career wise- staying in my professional field is tricky in our little community. DH is fed up with his job too, so a move may be on the table.
If you've done something like this, give me advice on how to handle the next year and how to move forward with looking for a new position.
Do you want to stay in your field, or just find a new job? What does your H do? In our case, H has the leading career (and pay) so if we were both fed up with our jobs he'd search and I'd follow and cross my fingers.
I don't have any real advice, but if you move it should be to a location from which you can ship me delicious beer on the reg (please see my vacation report PM!)
I think you first have to do some research where you figure out what you would like to work towards.
I would start by just talking to people about what they do--on this board, in real life, etc. find out what different jobs entail and where you might want to relocate.

I think I want to stay in my general field (public history) but jot necessarily working in this capacity (local government). DH is a civil engineer, so he's waaaay more marketable. Ideally he might take a new position in a college town, and I could be a (very poorly paid) adjunct.
Ha, jut saw the PM! Will respond with strategy for bootlegging beer out of Montana shortly.

I think networking is really key.
I think you're right about networking. DH is Open to moving, which throws m need to network into a 4 state area. I'm not sure how to start that... I should probably narrow down The type of position I'm looking for first.
