She made a HUGE improvement after her last trip to the ER, so we kept her appt for yesterday. We were debating even cancelling it because some days she seemed totally normal. The pulmonologist said she likely has laryngomalacia, which is basically a floppy airway. Linus had it and outgrew it quickly and it never caused any problems other than a bizarre high pitched rattly breathing. She said she should outgrow it eventually. She said also that being a large baby (i.e. she's roly poly and has a couple chins) could also literally be causing problems. She said it's not necessarily something WRONG, just basically an anatomy issue. She said she's particularly floppy (her body, not just her airway). She said it could be that she's so large- 13.5 lbs at 5 weeks, that it's a lot for her body to handle in conjunction with her airway. Plus, with her drinking insane amounts she said she is probably literally crowding her lungs if her stomach is so full. So basically if she gets worse at all we have their direct number so we won't have to go through all of this again. It's nice to hear some actual reasons though. Thanks so much for everyone's thoughts and checking in with us.
Here's some sibling love pics for making it through. They are in loooooove and take their new role very seriously.
J has/had a floppy airway too, it was very alarming to hear, but he never appeared in distress, so the doctors were never worried (we even took him to specialists). They said he would outgrow it by 2 years old and I can't remember the last time I heard it. So glad you got some answers!! The pics are adorable!
Aww those pictures are so cute! Love seeing the sibling love! I'm glad to see she is doing better and you have some answers. Hope she grows out of it soon.
