My BFF is 37 weeks pregnant. She has had a textbook pregnancy thus far. When her midwife checked her yesterday, she was 50% effaced and 2, possibly 3 cm dilated. Tonight she was over for dinner and she was super crampy and when she sat upright she had contractions. She headed home once her H got home and she now has a backache and she says she can feel it more in her sides.
Her midwife told her yesterday to pack her bag because she could be here any day or she could be another few weeks. I don't know what to tell her other than to drink lots of water and relax as much as possible because I never had this experience with G since I was induced.
So what are the odds I get a phone call at 3am to meet them at the hospital since I am her labor coach? For the record, I went out and got all the odds and ends for her labor/postpartum bag and a few other gifts because I can. I'm not excited or anything.
I don't know yet @tambcat. The last I heard they were very regular and les sporadic so maybe? I don't want to bug her if she is finally asleep but I did tell her just to jot down times she has contractions so she has real numbers to tell her midwife if and when she calls.
I think a lot of midwives can tell by a woman's voice whether they are in labor. Or so I have read! ha. My contractions didn't feel like that, but I'd be ready just in case.
I think there's a lot of truth to that. My labor went so fast, I wondered right afterward how the doctor knew to send me in and later how the nurse knew she shouldn't leave even though they were slammed. I figure they must have been able to tell by my actions that I was moving along quickly.
luvvy, it certainly could be labor, but at this point I bet it's prelabor and things will settle down as she rests. You never know!
Possibly. I had horrible back labor when my contractions started becoming more intense, but my water had already broke on it's own, so I knew it was definitely labor. My lower back was in the most pain.
Thanks all. I'm finishing up my homework for the week just in case. We have a test review tomorrow for Macro in which my teacher literally reads the test to us so it would make complete sense that she goes into labor tonight or better yet, later this week while I fly to WI to see family.
Possibly. My friend had terrible back pain for 2-3 days before full on labor with regular contractions started. She was having lots of contractions, but not close enough to get things moving. I felt for her - she was so uncomfortable.

Good luck to your friend!
That is where she is at but I NEED to her not go into full labor until Sunday when I get back into town.
