It keeps going around Ev's school/classroom. I'm PETRIFIED of having to deal with it b/c I know it's hard to get rid of .
Now it's in her Girl Scout Troop!
She has long long silky hair that I constantly have pulled back, but I'm really obsessing on it this week for some reason. I keep feeling like my hair tickles! I washed all kids hair with Tea Tree Oil last night. I read it can take up to FOUR WEEKS for it to show up after infestation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I keep worrying they all have it now and I just haven't found it.
If you've dealt with it, how did you know you/kids had it?
There's a spray that you can get over the counter that is supposed to repel lice. Payne has never had lice but I bought the spray after his old preschool had an outbreak.
I had it as a kid, so I didn't do much about it...except cry. I was so embarrassed! I remember my mom putting our stuffed animals in big black trash bags in the basement. I also remember her painstakingly coming through each tiny section of my long, very thick hair. My neck hurt from sitting there so long. That was a long time ago, though, and I'm sure treatment has gotten better.
My scalp now feels like there are bugs crawling in it. Ick!
Watch for them to scratch their head. They jerks hide. And the nits can look like dandruff, but its really not dandruff.
Get a metal comb. Not the plastic ones.
DD and I both had it - Thanks kid! I have long curly hair, she has long thick straight hair. We got rid of it. Treat your hair a few times if you get it.
Spray everything. Wash sheets and blankets in hot water. Put stuffed animals in garbage bags and put them away for 2 weeks.
I had it a couple times as a kid. I never knew it, it was found by the school nurse once and the person cutting my hair the other time. My mother treated my head with the typical stuff from the pharmacy and washed all the bedding. I had hair down to my waist at the time but once I cut it, I never had lice again.
The lice md does not kill nits, it kills adults, so you have to repeat the process on day 5 and 11 to catch any nits that didn't get combed out and managed to hatch.
You will need to bag up all soft toys that can not go into a hot wash/dryer for two weeks. Bedding, towels, coats, backpacks, etc need to be washed and dried on hot ( for at least 30 minutes). If you're doing this all on your own, you need to do this for 2 weeks. Throw out brushes/combs and buy smaller ones that you can soak in boiling water for 10 mintues a day.
Check your entire family, it's worth it to go to the health department or specialized salon for this. They are good at catching things normal people can't.
We use this for random checks now to see if we need to treat our kids. www.robicomb.com/
My SD got it from a kid with chronic lice issues. The RID didnt do a thing. We were combing and doing everything we were supposed to. Finally I started looking for natural remedies. I put lavender oil in her shampoo and conditioner and a few drops in the brush after she gets out of the shower and they were gone within 5 days or so. I would totally do that as a preventative even though I hate the smell of lavender.

omg THANKS!
Hi I am SloanPeterson and my DD had it for MONTHS on end last year. So I feel I may.. (may) be the ML Lice expert.
It went through my daughters class over and over and over and over. I first noticed it in Nov 2012. Did the treatment and took all of her linens stuffed animals everything and put them in plastic bags in the basement. Washed EVERYTHING in hot water. got a spray for the linens etc to keep lice away. lice gone. A week or so later, she gets it again.
did all the same as before cept then got tea tree oil and diluted that with water. threw out all her hats combs brushes and everything that went in her hair. Lice gone
Two weeks later lice again
did all that I did two previous times plus called the school. Also then would put tons of gel in her hair and wear it in a tight bun. Lice gone
about 3 weeks later (now we are into Jan / Feb) she gets it again. This time I do all of the things I have in the past and then made a hair mask with Vaseline and tea tree oil. Kept that in her hair for three days over a long weekend. Rinsed and used a robi comb every night at bedtime for a week. Lice gone. Call school AGAIN about this.
never came back and a friend of mine who worked in the school said that there was a child in dd's class whose parents refused to treat him for the lice and that is why it kept coming back. That child then moved in Feb and there were no further breakouts. Lice is nasty.. and awful.
Lice like clean hair....so wash your kids less? lol
I think if you know its going around, I'd probably buy one of those preventative sprays.
But the huge problem is the eggs. You think if you dont' have active bugs in your hair you are good. Key is to do the treatment and then again 10 days later because then you get any eggs about to hatch. Lice is so hard to get rid of. It was awful... I wouldn't wish lice on my worst enemy
I have read/heard that if you blow dry your child's hair after a bath, they are less likely to get lice, because the eggs/nits can't handle the heat. I don't know if this actually works because I haven't ever had to deal with this personally.

Get a robi comb. then you will know if your kid has lice. it makes a very specific noise when it encounters and egg or hatched lice.
