l has relatively mild-moderate reflux caused by her diary allergy, diagnosed by her g.i.
she's been on a very low dose of zantac which has managed it (almost no spitting up or vomiting, gagging, choking, hiccups, etc).
in the last few days her symptoms have returned. the scariest one is the gagging and choking on the vomit and spit up. it's terrifying for me and she looks so scared when it happens. i'm up all night checking on her on the monitor and have the volume on full blast afraid she's going to die. i jumped out of bed this morning at 5am when i heard gasping sounds after a cough. my h got there first but she was completely fine (and unphased) and went back to sleep.
the gi upped her zantac (still a low dose) so hopefully this goes away again.
i just need sympathy and commiseration. and maybe to be told i'm being a lunatic
Zantac isn't the most awesome drug in the world for babies. The liquid version contains trace amounts of alcohol which can upset their stomach, my son was one of those kids. Our pharmacist was actually the one who clued me in when I said it wasn't working, he said he hates giving it to infants.
We switched the prilosec and he's been on it ever since. He unfortunately never grew out of it so I have tons of sympathy and commiseration to give. Hang in there and don't be afraid to switch if things don't seem to improve a ton in the next one to two weeks.
My DH put our DD on Prevacid for her reflux (6 years ago) bc it is/was better than Zantac. Might be worth asking about? She grew out of it around 1 yr. good luck! Reflux sucks.
my h had reflux as an infant and never outgrew it I'm really hoping L does.
if this dosage doesn't work im absolutely going to ask what's next. luckily we are at a dr (the pedi or gi) every 2 weeks right know so i have enough people keeping tabs on it.
i can handle the spit up and the vomit and smelling like vomit. i cannot handle constant choking. im trying to be calm but i do not feel calm!
My baby is 7 weeks old and we just filled a script for pravacid bc Zantac wasn't cutting it anymore. I have been told Zantac needs upped with his weight. Reflux sucks so I'm right there with you.
