Does anyone use these? I like them and I think they would be cute but I'm not sure about spending $12 for a piece of elastic. I've seen them on Etsy for much less but am not sure which seller to use. Any suggestions?
(If you have no idea what I'm talking about, here's a link
I've tried these before from various brands, and although they are cute, they stretch out SOOOO much more than regular hair ties, and don't really look all that different in the hair.
I don't see how that's worthwhile. You could go to JoAnn's and pick up a 1/4 yard of elastic and tie it yourself for probably $2. How much are they on Etsy?

I've seen packs of 20 at Charming Charlie for $7 or so.
I have a few (came in birchboxes, bought at Francesca's for $2) and they're just ok. I still use a regular rubber band (I like my hair TIGHT) and these over for more "polish" (if these are polished lol).
I have the sephora ones, they have held up really well. Got them during a sale, so they were quite a bit cheaper than the anthro ones. Downside is the colors aren't as cute.
definitely don't get the anthro ones. waste of money. there's a boutique here in town that sells the emi-jay ones for $2.50 each, so that's where I get mine. however, fashionx is correct, they seem to be very easy to DIY.
fwiw, mine have stretched, but I just tie another knot to tighten them up again. I like them for work when I leave my hair down for a while, then put it up later and add a bit of color to my hair.

This was my exact thought. I might head to Joann's today and make myself a few, actually.

You could make them yourself but dying it and all is too much of a hassle and I don't really want white. I found some on etsy for $10 for 12. To me to get fun colors, it's worth it
If you DIY them, I'd suggest sealing off the ends in some way to prevent it from fraying. Either melting the edge a bit (would that work?) or using a fabric fray check.

Yup, it works just like you would satin ribbon. When I was in ballet, we would have to do this to the ribbon on our pointe shoes, haha. The easiest way I have found is to light a match, blow it out, and quickly touch the still hot match tip to the end of the ribbon so it melts it a bit. You can use a lit match, but if you aren't careful, it sometimes turns the ends a little black.

You can get the elastic in all different colors in craft stores. I've seen packs of 2 colors with the baby stuff.
Lol. Thanks for this post, it somehow led to me purchasing pre made ones on etsy. I love buying things I never knew I needed because of this board. The good news is they were only 4 for $1.80 shipped.
