We'll be in Rome and Florence in a couple of months and I'm trying to figure out the schedule. I know we want to see Ravenna, but I'm not sure how much time it needs. If you've been, is it a single day trip, or is an overnight better? Any any tips? thanks!
I did it as a day trip and it was a good amount of time. It's not that big. The main draw is the Basilica di San Vitale and adjacent buildings for the incredible mosaics. There is also an amazing church where you can see Dante's tomb. There's a market worth seeing too (early in the day if you can). There's a great beach near by, but the weather might not be beach weather per se when you go. It would still be nice to see. I guess it just depends on how much time you have and how you want to pace yourself in light of the rest of your itinerary. Rome and Florence will need considerably more time.
